Hello,

I became a proud owner of a beautiful all original Gibson RD Artist from '78. Although it has its own original old hardcase, I'm paranoid with all with my instruments, and I carry them in molded plastic cases (like Gator or skb) or Peli cases.
But the RD is wider than any of these cases and it doesn't fit in them. My regular Enki case is also not enough deep. The deeper version would do the work but honestly I don't want to buy another Enki just for this purpose.

So my question is, do you know any manufacturer who has a case that it's wide enough for it to fit or I have to have it custom made.

The original hardcase I have for it is in mint condition, there's nothing wrong with it, it's just made of wood and I don't really trust in these. The thunderbird case is made of the same thin wood material.

Hello everyone!

I know this post is kinda old, but I have some knowledge about this topic.  The readership has postulated as to whether or not a Gibson RD Artist Bass would fit into a Gibson Thunderbird case by Gator or other.  The answer is definetly "no".  The RD "wing" is wider by 1/2" than the case.  The Thunderbird is more Rhomboid shaped.  (Diamond)  It tends to drop lower than the RD's shape.  I bought a Gator Thunderbird case off Amazon.  The price is nice at $185.00.  I loved it!  But the RD headstock won't fit either.  I was disappointed.  There's just no way to get the RD Bass into a Thunderbird case.  Sadly, I sent the case back to Amazon.  Your best bet - call Gator Cases in Tampa, Florida.  The website doesn't do it for me.  You could try to use their "case finder". But It doesn't allow you to select Gibson.  It's not up to snuff.  If you call them, and enquire about a case for an RD Artist Bass by Gibson, you may get better results.  I, myself am contemplating taking action on this very topic.  I hope this helps anyone who is searching for a case for a Gibson RD Bass - (Artist, Custom or Standard).  TKl cases #8836 will fit however it costs $300.00 online.
