la bam Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Hi all, I'm after going wireless again and love the boss gear. Simple, decent price and reliable. However my bass is active. So I'm just wondering what boss wireless systems are fine with active basses. In particular I'd like something like the Wl20 (just 2 Jack's to plug in) but I'm not sure if they're compatible? Quote
tauzero Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Depending on the bass, it will work or it won't. If it doesn't work, you have two courses of action: Swap the negative and ground leads on the bass output socket Get a short mono male jack to female jack lead and use that to connect between the dongle and the bass Quote
jezzaboy Posted January 2 Posted January 2 @la bam I use the Boss WL 20 and this is made for passive basses and the WL 20L is made for active basses. There is a difference as I found that when I plugged the WL 20 into an active bass it gave a buzz through the speaker. A bit crap really as I didn`t know this when I bought it and had I know I would have chosen something else. I`m guessing it has something to do with the passive one having a built in cable tone simulation to quote Boss. Quote

franzbassist Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Yep, I used the WL20L for my active basses with no issue. Now I use the WL50 and it's even better. Quote

I don't see why using a WL-20L would buzz with an active bass - the cable tone simulation seems unlikely. Did you try it with more than one active bass? And did you try a WL-20L with the active bass?
