When replacing such output jacks I always use a stereo jack plug to check the lugs (connectivity) to know which one is which, that's the safer way to replace these.

If your "tech" had done this instead of the try and error way, there wouldn't have been any problem.

To me, he's no tech at all, but pretends to be one.

I just can't understand how he would have wired each one of them up incorrectly every time! I'm sure he told me he had reversed the wiring at one point, just to try and see if that fixed it - which it didn't.

And this, especially the last sentence is just proving he is no tech at all, but a guy with a soldering iron without any electronic background and doing some soldering randomly: amazing! 🤦🏻

Thanks for the replies. The tech tried around 3 different barrel jacks, only the last of which has the 4 lugs which is what is currently installed. So he wires things in different ways until one works? 🤔

Seriously, don't go back to that guy for any wiring issue. 🙈

If he reversed the wiring on the 4-lug socket, it would have made no difference, because the socket body (chassis lug) is connected to the sleeve (longest lug).

If he's using trial and error to try & fix a simple problem like this then he is obviously not competent do do this job.
