dave_bass5 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 One of our old speaker stands is starting to fall apart, so it’s time to replace both. They are quite heavy as well. I quite fancy the Gravity GSP5211B, which looks ideal, but im wondering what you guys use in this (sub £150) area. Also looked at the QUIKLOK S171PAK. A bit cheaper but the Gravity has more metal on it where it counts apparently. Just small pub/club gigs so we don’t need anything too professional. Cheers. Happy new year. Quote
Chienmortbb Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 The last ones I bought were Novopro SS3R Speaker Stands. They have some gas assist but the main thing is that the safety pins are built in, not dangling Ona piece of string. That means you never lose them. The gas assist would only make a real difference on lighter speakers but it helps. 1 Quote
Phil Starr Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 £150 is a good budget. There is a choice of aluminium stands by K&M within your price bracket. I’m still using my cheap starter stands but the K&M mic stands I have are great. 1 Quote
dave_bass5 Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 Cheers guys. I remember years ago we have silver aluminium ones that were gas assisted. Really light and a pleasure to set up and take down. I have been doing some research and went ahead and ordered the Gravity ones (non gas assisted). They seem like they will work fine, i like the bag, and got them for £110 delivered. Another reason for ordering so quick, is that ours are in a car stuck in a garage the other side of town. It was easier to order a new pair now for delivery tomorrow rather than go and get ours. 1 Quote
Chienmortbb Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Gravity are a good make, I love my mic stand. 2 Quote

dave_bass5 Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 Thankfully arrived just in time for tonight’s gig. So much lighter than the old ones, and the bag is really well padded. 1 Quote
Dan Dare Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 My recommendation for cheap speaker stands is don't. I use K&M (other makes are available). They aren't cheap, but they last and you don't have to worry about a PA cab falling on anyone and the resultant claim for damages from LawyersRUs et al. With that said, Gravity is a decent make. 1 Quote

I'm quite tempted, my Gorilla stands are fine but weigh in at about 11kg and I keep my mic stand in the same bag so it's over my 10kg per item limit. And it's a more packing/unpacking friendly bag than my current one. 1 Quote

After the gig one of my guitarists took it out to the car, only to then walk back with. He had forgotten to put the stands in it, thinking someone else had. It was quite funny watching him open the bag to find they were in there. Quote
Al Krow Posted Thursday at 17:31 Posted Thursday at 17:31 Tourtech stands are another decent budget one - can handle a 50kg load and come in for around £50 a pair, although the cases are pretty flimsy and I've had to replace it after a couple of year's use. Quote

I was looking at those. What put me off, or rather sold me more on the Gravity’s, was the metal joints where the wheels are. I’ve replaced so many over the years when they have cracked. Hopefully these will last much longer. Quote
