Exactly ‘1 Wal’ expensive.

My wife bought a new kitchen 19 years ago.  It's already worn out, so, she's not getting another.

Count me in. There's nothing I want or need so I can't see any reason I could possibly fail.

Geezo - 10 days in and already I'm playing chicken with Facebook Marketplace - what's wrong with me?  I've been trying to channel it though - I've started a 2026 want list instead.  Because if you think I'm doing back to back years of abstinence, you're sorely mistaken!

Last year has affected me badly it seems. I’ve been looking at stuff, but keep rationalising the GAS away. It’s not natural I tell you!

Stay strong on the path, brother.

In other news the UK apparently might have a GAS shortage, so if we don't buy anything we could perhaps use our pent-up gas to help keep the country warm?

I wouldn’t ask for much in return, just a few thousand vouchers for Andy Baxter’s store 😂

Using the principles of this thread, I managed to not buy a set of Mission 702e floor standing speakers - 40 quid in the Orpington Cash Converters.

Great price, good condition, matched my furniture, would have fitted the space. But I simply didn't need them.

Well that was silly, because I'm pretty sure consumer electronics is outwith the scope of this challenge... :D

It's a Tier 10 fail.... but I needed to practice Self Control.   And I needed the money too!

And, if I got the speakers, then my wife could justify getting a new oven....

And you get to eat the cakes that issue forth from that oven, I fail to see the problem here...

That nicely coincides with a question I have. I’ve been contemplating getting some desktop speakers for my Mac because the speakers built into the monitor are pants. Would that be allowed or not?

As I said, consumer electronics fall outwith the scope as far as I'm concerned.  Even though I made sure I got the purchases in before the end of last year (because I was in that mindset), I don't think my purchasing of a set of headphones, or a bluetooth transmitter/receiver would constitute an infraction.  I probably wouldn't even have brought it up, and I would have slept soundly going forward.

I was about to chastise you for pulling the equivalent move of cracking open a beer at an AA meeting, then I saw the price :D

I made arrangements last year to have an amp built , could be delivered next week. But I plan to thin things this year , and don’t really need anything else. I’m in.

Good job it's got four strings and I haven't got £20k down the back of the settee.

This is basschat you know. We skipped the page in English class where use of the verb “to need” was discussed

I agree.  If you were buying studio monitors for your recording setup, that would be tier 2, but laptop speakers don't count.

So, notwithstanding the comment that consumer electronics are outwith the scope, I’ve pulled the trigger on a pair of Adam Audio D3V speakers which are smallest, baby speakers in their range. I suspect that these may cross the line into studio monitor territory, or at least sit across the line between consumer/studio speakers. I therefore prostrate myself before the court to adjudicate on whether this constitutes a tier 2 fail (I think I know the answer 😉).
