I’ve found an ax1b after a while of searching…

 

Haven't had any time with it yet…

 

A quick scroll through the menus may suggest that I’ve mis-remembered it’s abilities

Does it count if you buy the exact same bass you regretted selling 4 years ago?

 

It's rare, collectable, 40 years old... Surely that's out of scope?

LOL, nope, you're screwed.  If I don't get a bye for a bass which has been living rent free in my head for 12 years, you certainly don't get a pass for a paltry 4 years.

I agree with @neepheid

if I can bow out after years of success as “bang to rights” so can you.
The ring of the cash register or the resounding thump of a “funds requested” email from PayPal in your guilty-as-trump inbox is the grim reaper of your hopes of staying off the naughty list, mister 

 

 

nb: I would have tried “I’ve always wanted a five string”, “I’ve never owned a sire”, “it’s my first red bass” and “I did also sell one beforehand for more £ so it’s really net-zero gain and thus technical abstinence” if I thought the jury would go for any of those. I thought it unlikely somehow

I’m out. Gave into the temptation of a second LFSys Monza, having considered many alternatives, including sticking with just the one. I have a significant birthday this year, so I decided on an early birthday present and I needed just a few more DB for the blues/rock band I play in. Life’s short, etc…. No excuse.

Plus if they are solely for guitarists they count as a medical aid for the unfortunate afflicted and actual genuine benevolence and philanthropy

Edit: of course if stub handed plectrums to a bass player, or allowed infection by plectrum to occur by his negligence, it indeed be time to fetch the black cap and order the larger set of portable gallows ..

I hereby give notice of impending Gear Abstinence Failure. A 5 string has been sourced, ordered and paid for but has yet to arrive. In my defence, m'lud, a recent setlist update beyond my control has seen the need for some low B action (so the bigger boys in the band have told me) and they made me get one (and they stole my dinner money, too). 

 

Good luck to those who have stayed strong and loyal to this thread. Stay strong, brothers. 😀

Personalised band plectrums? Perhaps if they were reclassified from "plectrum", to "triangular plastic business cards", then you would be exempt from failure.

I was online mentioning that I had found an old ad for a Dan Armstrong plexi bass…silly price. Just $450 Cdn. I replied to the ad , but it was about six months old. I also found a more recent local ad that was closer too , but it was ten times the price. Looking closely at the ads I was easily able to determine they were not the same bass. No reply from the original ad , that post is now removed.
An old friend in California now wants to gift me a Chinese replica. I immediately said I would pay for the shipping.

So , I didn’t register in this thread , but watch and read it , religiously.  Would I be out for something I may not even be in for paying shipping?

I’d say so. You’re only cheating yourself as you’re acquiring new gear no matter the price paid.

Incorrect, in the context of this contest's rules at least.  If this is a completely out of the blue, unsolicited gift, it's not a fail.  Otherwise, I could find a bass in a skip and gift it to someone participating in the thread to knock them out of the running!

 

Offering to pay the for shipping ain't cheating either, it's merely polite.

Alright. I got my new bass. I got my new pedals I wanted, a board with case, the power supply needed. I got all the cables and stuff. I even got spare strings and nuts. STARTING NOW, how long can I go on being completely dry? Ideally I'd want to avoid buying anything else at least in 2025.

 

Jusging by this thread, it's much harder than it looks! 😁
