So, notwithstanding the comment that consumer electronics are outwith the scope, I’ve pulled the trigger on a pair of Adam Audio D3V speakers which are smallest, baby speakers in their range. I suspect that these may cross the line into studio monitor territory, or at least sit across the line between consumer/studio speakers. I therefore prostrate myself before the court to adjudicate on whether this constitutes a tier 2 fail (I think I know the answer 😉).

Hmm, these look a little too fancy/monitor-y to be considered simply consumer electronics.  It's not as if they're a set of passive hi-fi bookshelf speakers (which is what I envisaged when this was first discussed).  Tier 2 fail for me.

Bad speakers annoy me, so while it's probaby T2 then would be lenient and let you off with a caution.

Be glad it's not an Unpleasant Discharge, which is what I think Donald Trump got. Or possibly is.

It’s definitely a case of scope creep on my part and, like you, crappy speakers would annoy me, hence going for these as opposed to something more vanilla.

I promise to behave myself henceforth as I wouldn’t want to be lumped together with the very unpleasant DJT.

Using the principles of this thread, I managed to not buy a set of Mission 702e floor standing speakers - 40 quid in the Orpington Cash Converters.

Great price, good condition, matched my furniture, would have fitted the space. But I simply didn't need them.

You’re speaking some strange language there. 🧐

Personally I’ll give you a hall-pass. Or maybe a trump style “discharge”

I had a very near miss. Was going to buy a G&L JB-2 in Pink for £300 at Andertons. But some scrote got to it before I did!

Still in by the skin of my teeth.

So was up at Anderton's today collecting my guitar with the fixed nut... and forgetting entirely about this thread bought a new cable with a right angle jack on both ends as it fits the latest iteration of my pedal board... am I out or is a new lead OK?

I think leads could be considered consumables/sundries.  I think I'd have to be in a real bad mood to get ar$ey about a cable.  I reckon you're OK.

Being given something doesn’t count does it?

Might only be an extended borrow anyhow

Unsolicited gifts are fine.  Borrowing stuff is probably fine - if you're borrowing it, it's not really yours, no money changed hands, you'll give it back at some point.  I don't think there's anything to see here (except for you being too lazy to palm mute ;) )

He has to return it though, not sell it for buttons when the next shiny thing appears with reach of his clammy paws 🐾

Phew - wasn't my fault either. As I was paying for the repair the devious salesman said "oh you have £6 of points to use..."

Well, if you were coerced into it then you’re totally in the clear

Oooh, does that mean that if I can get Mrs Zero to say "you ought to get that" then I'll be OK?

Admittedly, she's more likely to say "if you get that" and thence will follow some threat involving parts of my anatomy that would definitely be excluded by the Geneva Conventions.

A word to the wise - "Do Whatever You Want" doesn't mean what you think it does either........😬😬

Coerced is not the same as encouraged or “ought” and it depends upon the nature and cost of the item.

I've had a bloody awful day and still have a headache. Simon didn't need the cable, a piece of wet string would have done and he's already got two of them. I say he's out.

But it seems the majority disagree, and I'll feel better after a night's sleep so he's still in - hooray! 😃

I'm liking this idea of coersion being a suitable additional reason to stay active on this thread... can someone add it to the official rules while I come with a scheme to be coerced into buying something a bit more substantive?

Hence the expression, originally "have a drum break, then have a kit-kat", but adapted and adopted by the Nestlé organisation.

Maybe it’s because my evening plans were ruined by car failure but I am shocked that you would encourage each other into buying cables that aren’t replacing broken cables or removing liability where a salesman encourages a purchase! No wonder you’re all in this group 😂
