Freddi375 Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Hi guys, I've just pulled the trigger on a FI v4 pedal. Just wondering what the best and cheapest solution to changing sounds on a gig without having to switch through the patches till you get to the correct one. Is there like a 4/6 way switch pedal that can plug into the FI that i can assign a sound to making it easy on a gig? First time doing this!! Thanks in advance Freddie Quote

I ask because your phone/tablet can do this with the correct connecting cable and a free app. Personally I’d recommend a controller that also has at least one expression input port so you can take advantage of the extra FI features. You can also use the FI editor to reorder your patches so you can group the ones you use right next to each other, that way you can use the built-in switch to navigate with minimal presses. Also worth reading through the main FI thread for ideas. Edited January 2 by Quatschmacher Quote

Thanks Rob Something like Roland UM-One MK2. For the FI 4, any generic USB-to-MIDI cable should work (though I’ve not tried to see if my phone would handle such a cable yet). If using an iPhone then the Apple Camera Connection Kit adapter is also needed. In terms of apps, the free version of TouchOSC, Midi Designer Pro X or any of the other free MIDI controller apps which can send CC and PC messages will work. A bit pricier than what you may have in mind but a Morningstar MC3 or MC6 is what I’d recommend. These will unlock loads of potential in the FI and if you add any more MIDI pedals in the future, they’ll be able to control those too. They come up used reasonably often. Panda make their 4Control, which allows up to 2 double footswitches or two expression pedals (or one of each) to be connected. Edited January 2 by Quatschmacher Quote
Freddi375 Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 Thanks again. Do you know if this would work? PAINTAUDIO MIDI Captain NANO 4/MINI 6 Foot Controller Multi-Effects Keyboards Synthesizer USB-MIDI musical software Bias Support all PC/CC/Note commander (MIDI Captain MINI 6) Much appreciated Cheers Freddie Quote

Haven’t heard of this one before so can’t vouch for reliability or continued firmware support though. (I’ve used Morningstar for years and have worked with them on features and firmware updates for the past few years so can absolutely vouch for them, hence my recommendation.) 1 Quote

Useful to know about, but no idea how good it is or how robust it is. The comments on the Amazon site seem to indicate that support and documentation is pretty non-existent though. If you have an inclination to work through stuff like this, it may be a good product. However I recall trying to get the MVAVE Chocolate pedals to work and that took a long time. I consider myself pretty technical and have developed stuff like compilers and worked on operating systems, but I struggled to get it all working. After that, I put a value per hour on what I was prepared to pay myself to get around poor or non existent documentation. So if I assume my time is worth £25 per hour, how long was I prepared to work to make it do what I wanted? So if I assume it would take 6 hours, then is the product worth the purchase price + £150? I look at the Morningstars and the constant excellent reviews they get, and think how long I spend fighting poor support and incomplete docs. Of course everybody is different and has a different value of their own time and what they want to pay. Now if that box was £30-£40 it might well be a good price. I found it on AliExpress for £76.19. No idea what customs would charge for this. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006542236297.html I did giggle at the advertising for it. Not sure that "Switches Work More than Expected" is quite the flex they think it is 1 Quote
andybassdoyle Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I've used the Hotone Ampero control really successfully with the FI Four footswitches but will also accept additional TRS switches or EXP controls and then route the midi out to FI. Fully programable over bluetooth with a nice and easy phone app so you can set program changes or CC as you wish 3 Quote
Freddi375 Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 You are a superstar buddy, really appreciate your help. I'd obviously rather get something good so might see where I can get the Morningstar from. Is it simple to assign patches just using that and the FI v4 would you know or do I need to do this via software on pc? Quote

You can do the programming on the Morningstar pedal itself but it’s a bit cumbersome (this is where Mortrix excels). However, the Morningstar app is browser-based so no need to install software and it’s very easy to use. There’s also a mobile version. You can play around with both versions without having a pedal connected to check the interface out. Edited January 2 by Quatschmacher 1 Quote

barrettisgold Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Check out the Luminite Graviton. You could set it up to change parameters on the Future Impact: https://luminitefx.com/en-gb/products/graviton-m2-midi-controller I don’t own one and haven’t used it but it looks to be a good solution in terms of functionality and cost. I have been following users on this and other forums that use them. Seems to be getting positive reviews. 1 Quote
