Having done some research into a Rumble 100 v3 I keep reading folk saying it's not the greatest for gigging.

 

I'm aiming to play functions, wedding venues etc with the rumble but need some input from fellow users of said amp before I take the plunge on it

Trace Elliot everytime on this budget so long as you don't mind the weight. Facebook marketplace has plenty of great options at the moment - I'm desperately trying to stay away from the ones in Portsmouth as I really don't need them... but but.... !

 

FYI if you keep an eye on things I picked these up (cat optional) for £80 a couple months back, and yes it keeps up with a drummer just fine!

Do you have PA support or do you need a set up to fill large function rooms on its own?

 

There seems to be too many constraints here - if you need something gig capable but compact you'll need to spend more IMO. One possible solution is an older 2x10 on its side, there's an SWR Goliath Jnr 2x10 near you on FB for £150:

Now it's functions. I am making possibly my last post on this thread.

 

Two kinds of functions. LAF and civilized. LAF tend to involve big PA.

 

Civilized is more the small pub gig where they don't want the roof raised. The kind where a Rumble 100 V3 would be absolutely fine.

 

I used one with a full jazz orchestra going for gold. Listening to the previous band I thought it had to have been DI'd. Nope. Maybe 200 people loosely filled. I had my HPF on it and no worries.

 

So, what is going to give? Size or cost?

 

That SWR210 would be fine too btw. As all the old Trace stuff we have seen.

"Not the greatest for gigging"? Ever heard the expression "beggars can't be choosers"? £230 doesn't buy light, loud and great for gigging. Not bragging, but many of us on here use rigs that cost around ten times your budget. See Downunderwonder's post above. Something has to give.

If you want something compact with a small footprint then an older 2x10 on its side or a 1x12 is probably the only way you'll get something around your remaining budget. Unless you fancy a longer drive you'll be looking at local collection only listings on FB Marketplace, eBay etc. Brands like Peavey, Ashdown, Hartke, TC Electronic, Laney. Not much point in recommending a specific type of cab as your budget constraints will decide what is attainable over everything else.

 

Hartke XL cabs are decent and go for pocket money now, on here in London for £75 which would bring you under budget:

That SWR I linked to above would be fine, be aware it's a 4ohm cab so you can't add another. I'd grab that Hartke as chances are you'll see another one for sale before too long and can have a vertical 4x10 tower which should cover every gig you're likely to do without PA support.

As a head, then pick up a cheap, heavy cab locally.

 

Plenty of people gig with either of those heads and you can upgrade your cab with gig money when it starts "roling in" 😁

Just wanted to post a final update and say that I purchased the TC Electronic BH250 and BC208 from a local seller for £280 all in and I'm more than very happy with it. 

 

Big thanks to all for your input even though i came across as picky and indecisive 😆👍

Decent deal that, I have the BH250 and think it's a really neat little head. I'd keep a lookout for another BC208 to put underneath it for a mini tower of power, they come up pretty regularly.
