FretsOnFire Posted January 5 Posted January 5 What's the overall opinion on the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision Bass? Looking at getting myself one in the very near future and it's a toss up between this and the Harley Benton MP-4EB. I currently own and play an Ibanez SR300EB and a Harley Benton PJ-4 HTR Will the Squier be an upgrade? Quote
NJE Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Based on my past experience with all of the brands, I wouldn’t say the Squier or Harley Benton would be much of an upgrade, they would just be a different vibe/sound. I have a Harley Benton Jazz bass and it’s a solid bass and very playable after some tweaking. Had a few Squiers and they have all been great as well, certainly more consistent than lower end Mexican made fenders. I think you would do better long term with a Squier, recognisable brand and easier to sell when you want to upgrade again. 1 Quote
Geek99 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I’ve played a few CVs and all have been amazing value and quality 2 Quote
FretsOnFire Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 I've been looking at the MJ-4EB aswell which only adds to the frustration on which is the one to go for 😂😁 Quote
cetera Posted January 6 Posted January 6 You can't go wrong with the Squier CV 60's P Bass. Not a significant upgrade on what you have, but a solid, reliable and great sounding bass for sure. 1 Quote
FretsOnFire Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 I'm right on the edge of hitting the purchase button on the creme me4 but looking at the 4mn is there much difference? Same pickup config just different wood is all I can see so it should sound the same right? https://www.thomann.co.uk/compare.html?art[]=443474&art[]=443467 Quote

Sound is always subjective. I (as do others) believe that a maple board will give a bass a slightly brighter overall sound. Many will disagree. I just don't get on with maple boards at all. Apart from the sound, they just feel 'harder'. That is very much just my own opinion. 1 Quote

I have never thought that the wood added much to the sound, but if it does, the neck will paly a bigger part than the body IMHO as more of it is under the string. In saying that I am currently trying various PUPS in my G4M P bass a it sounds too bright. It is the only bass I own with an all maple neck! Quote

At least that’s how all of my basses are, all being the same series and with same strings. I find the maple board basses seem to fit in the mix better. I suppose as I used to dig in and play quite hard I prefer maple boards, plus from a practical point I find it easier to navigate the neck when on a brightly lit stage. 1 Quote
dave_bass5 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I've got one of the 'original' CV Jazz basses. IIR it came out in 2006 or around about that time. I gigged it for a good 2-3 years when I first got it. Its outlasted a few Fender/Lakland jazz basses. The neck itself has been on quite a few P basses ive had in that time as well. one of the nicest necks ive ever played. I have replaced the PUPs and bridge, but the rest of it needs no replacing. Never gone out of tune when playing. It's a bass not worth much but not one id ever part with. Quote
