bassboy115 Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 I have a MIM jazz and i am looking into buying a second bass.. i went on Thomann to have a look and i saw this : http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_wsb_704_bk.htm I have recently starting really liking the look of Music man but have no where near the money to get a real one. does anybody have any experience with this bass or just harley Benton in general... What are your opinions on this? cheers! Quote
EdwardHimself Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 They are very good for the money, probably even better then OLP stingrays. U should get 1. Quote
paul, the Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 I have an acoustic HB - it sounds pretty naff but it's a close friend now, lots of character.
They are very good for the money, probably even better then OLP stingrays. wizbat Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I have a HB classical roundback guit*r and It is perfect. Quote
TheButler Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Harley Benton is the Thomann stuff yeh ? I don't see why it wouldn't be worth a punt. They are maybe not as goof value for money as an SX for the US but i think the only way you'll get a pretty decent represntation of how they are is by buying one Quote

If you decide you don't like the guitar within 30 days they'll arrange for UPS to come round and pick it up, no charge. Quote
acidbass Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) I've played two HB models in the past and would highly recommend them - the Beatbass and the Jazz Copy (not sure of the model name). Both excellent basses that where the sound definitely surpasses your expectations for the price you pay. With a nice setup, straplocks and maybe a new set of tuners, you could have a great gigging bass. Edited June 8, 2007 by acidbass Quote

Veils Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 And I might just add that I have played that bass ^^ For the price, very very good. Feels well built, very nice to play and sounds good. Hardware doesn't feel cheap and the neck is fairly comfortable, even for me with small hands Quote

warwickhunt Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 £80 for a new bass! It has to be a no-brainer from the level of comments from people who have bought the HB stuff. Quote
Happy Jack Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Quite apart from the basses, that is a seriously clever website. The ability to rotate and enlarge the photographs should be a required facility on all music sites! Quote
Veils Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I reckon the HB stuff is going to get more expensive. They seem to be picking up popularity pretty quick...... Quote

Veils Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I am seriously considering picking meself up a HB of some kind to have as a backup...... Quote
NJW Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 66 quid for a jazz bass? I'm a gear snob, but even I'm considering it!!! Quote

EdwardHimself Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I used to have a jazz copy, the body is bigger then that of a jazz bass and it doesn't sound anything like a real one, but the sound it does have is quite nice. Quote
twentyhertz Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 There is always the classic solution of buying one of those HB basses for cheap and jamming some Quarter Pounders in it, I swear those pickups can work miracles on any bass they go in! Quote
Rich Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I could be seriously tempted by one of their cheapo acoustic basses... certainly look the part. Quote
stingrayfan Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 You could get a 2nd hand OLP for a little bit more. It's more like the real thing as it's an authorised copy. Quote
