funkle Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Hello all Looking for the hive mind to offer input. I have a pair of beautiful sounding humbuckers that lose just a little too much high end in a passive circuit with 2 x 500K volume pots and 1 x 500K tone pot. I'm looking at options for buffering them to regain some of the top end. I know the John East Uni Pre and the J Retro have pickup buffering built into them. Do any other preamps have this as well? itu Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Noll Mixpot works very well. I have had it in my previous Modulus 5 SPi custom with bartolinis, and a current Status copy. You can buy a preamp from him as well. There's some US preamp with a mixer, but the name is somewhere here in the threads which I have forgotten. EMG is also one. 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) You named it before @itu: Bartolini... Edited January 5 by Hellzero 2 Quote

The Noll MixPot looks good. https://www.noll-electronic.de/bass-electronics/mixpot/ As for EMG. It looks like EMG does one system that straight up is what I could use out of the box - https://www.emgpickups.com/bass/accessories/btssystemhz.html They also do something like the Noll MixPot, which you use in front of a lot of their other EQ systems - an active blend control - https://www.emgpickups.com/bass/accessories/abc.html @Hellzero I found a Bartolini buffer as well. https://bartolini.net/product/agb I wonder if any of the Bart preamps have buffering without having to use the buffer listed above. It doesn’t look like it from their website. Great suggestions guys. Thanks. 1 Quote
itu Posted January 5 Posted January 5 There's one more, but it is sold in the US only... oh dear, it is Audere. bartolini has functional preamps, but not all have mixers. 1 Quote
funkle Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Ah, Audere, I forgot about them. Nice preamps. Now I think about it, the Lusithand Double NFP must have a pickup buffer as well….? 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Richter in Germany also have a twin buffer preamp in their range. https://www.richter-ee.de/mixer.html EBS had a terrific buffered preamp too, but it's not made anymore. 2 Quote
LukeFRC Posted January 6 Posted January 6 All preamps will have a buffer in them at the input stage. Or an input stage that is effectively a buffer. East Uni pre and others will buffer each pickup and then active blend. Others will use a passive blend before the preamp. 1 Quote
lemmywinks Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I have a dual channel Bartolini buffer preamp knocking around somewhere, I used it in my old fretless to buffer the piezo bridge with the mag pickups. Will dig it out tonight if you're interested? Quote

I took the piezo bridge out of that bass so it isn't being used, dunno how much they go for. Just done battle with my parts box and can't find it, have a feeling I took it into work as I was going to put it up for sale along with the piezo bridge so will check tomorrow and get the model number. I think it's this one so may not be suitable for your needs: https://bartolini.net/product/mpb2/ Quote
