Can't go wrong with a Focusrite... High quality mic amp and DAC make them a relative bargain. I got a 2i2 (ie 2 inputs) to start. Got an 18i20 now...

@prowla Son has an old Mac Book thanks to the generosity of our @rwillett - Son us well into his MusicTech A Level

Faceache can sort the right version of Logic for your version of OS etc.

Then a Focusrite 2!2 (2 Dual Inputs instead of the Solo version with  1x 1/4 and 1x XLR) From CackConverters for £60ish?

Why not stick with GarageBand ?  As for interface , Behringher Uphoria Umc 22 is cheap and cheerful .only 2 inputs and no midi , but is straightforward to use .

I started with Garageband and a little Berhringer 4-channel mixer with USB. A cheap way to get into digital music, though I found Garage Band a slippery slope to Logic Pro. Reaper seems pretty good though - we have to use it next year at uni so I've been starting to use it.

The UMC204HD is good too, and has MIDI and two XLR/jack inputs rather than the one XLR and one jack of the UMC22.
