spongebob Posted January 5 Posted January 5 This may be a daft question…..please be gentile! I’m in the market for a backup amp, and got curious about the pedals which change tone, and DI out. Rather than an amp, I’m looking at investing in a pedal. Question is, is that the best use on these? I gig with a Markbass head and 2x10 cab. I’m wondering why…..the MB sound is what it is, and it ain’t ever going to be an Ampeg 8x10! Is there any point in such pedals going through a trad amp/cab, or better suited to a DI and monitor situation? I did pose in the PA section about the 64 Pedal……if I did want to dump the amp/cab, what would be the best (keep the cost down) monitor? I love the idea of these things that would give the sound I’ve dreamed of, but in such a small package. 😎 Quote

I have no hands-on experience yet as I’m yet to receive the 64 I bought. Edited January 6 by Quatschmacher 1 Quote
Noisyjon Posted March 14 Posted March 14 (edited) Didn't know where else to post this so this looked like a good thread to share in - I noticed Origin Effects sell slightly discounted 'B Stock' pedals on their website. There's currently Cali76 Bass Compressors - Black and Silver versions - as well as a DCX Bass and Bassrig '64! Get stuck in folks: https://origineffects.com/product-category/b-stock/ (I'm not affiliated with OE in any way) Edited March 14 by Noisyjon 2 Quote

Get stuck in folks: https://origineffects.com/product-category/b-stock/ (I'm not affiliated with OE in any way) Adding VAT and shipping is the kicker. DCX Bass is £172, but add VAT and it is £206 (and I assume postage added at the end but I didn't go through the sign-up hoops to find out) so it is perhaps £210 for B stock.....alternatively, Peach Guitars are doing 'A stock' it for £230 including postage. I suppose it depends just how much of 'B Stock' the B stock is for that £20 saving being worthwhile. Something odd with Origin Effects is UK shop prices seem to be all over the place e.g. The DCX Bass is £230 from Hot Rox, £245 from Peach, £260 from most others. Bassrig Super Vintage is £380 from Hot Rox, £400 from Peach Guitars, £410 PMT, £450 from Andertons. (I've bought a few pedals from Hot Rox and Peach and they've always been good UK based shops and are generally cheaper than Andertons, GAK, Gear4Music, PMT). Quote
Linus27 Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I've recently found Andertons prices a bit odd recently. Some of their products for pedals etc. have been £20 - £40 dearer than most other places online. Quote
jimbobothy Posted March 17 Posted March 17 … use code SHOW2025 to get 20% off until I think April. They were giving away little business cards at the recent Bass and Guitar show I went to. Saves a bit more than the VAT they add on the website strangely! 2 1 Quote

Just had a try and the code didn't work sadly Quote

It means the DCX Bass 'A Stock' total price is £207 (so actually £3 cheaper than the B stock version). Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for my bank balance) the DCX Bass is currently out of stock. 1 Quote
jimbobothy Posted March 17 Posted March 17 ... the normal colour version appears to be still in stock, but the black one isn't (I'd go for that one if I could also!). 1 Quote
jimbobothy Posted March 17 Posted March 17 … actually just ordered one of the DCX Bass in original finish, it‘d match the comps I already have of theirs better! An early B’day present as it’s next month! I might as well make use of the 20% discount when it’s around (until 6.4.25) 👍🏻 … but also need to think, now what to sell 🤣 1 Quote

Not good for my bank balance! 1 Quote
jimbobothy Posted March 19 Posted March 19 (edited) … and it has landed 👍🏻 … lovely quality and at first look over all seems as it should be thank the Lord 😎 Edited March 19 by jimbobothy 4 Quote

I just got one and had a quick go on it and is as good as I was hoping. The only slight downside is that I want two! I'd like to use it as an 'always on' with EQ/Preamp mode, and also the OD is good (and goes from edge of breakup right up to almost fuzz territory) - but I need to turn OD on/off for a few specific parts of songs.....perhaps a bit of string around the EQ/OD switch attached to my foot?! 😀 Edited March 22 by SumOne 2 Quote
