addictedtobass Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Hi all. Slight technical problem here. I recently swapped my cv 70s j bass 5 string for a cv 70s p bass 4 (couldn't get on with 5 string) . The guy must have seen me coming. Went to do a minor adjustment on the truss rod yesterday, no adjustment Allen key tube ! Is this repairable? Or is it a new neck ? I am gutted as I love the bass. If it is a new neck , any suggestions on a cheap but reasonable P or J bass neck ? Obviously the guitar does not warrant £££ spent on it. Any help would be much appreciated Regards Bob Quote
Doctor J Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Show a picture of the issue as it's not very clear what is going on. Quote
addictedtobass Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Ok buddy. It's a bit fiddly but I'll try . It's missing it's adjustment bolt Quote
addictedtobass Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Blind as a bat , so can't see how much of the threaded end of the truss is still there. I suspect the guy tightened the hell out of it and snapped most of the thread Quote
Bassman68 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I’ve got two CV70’s, A P & J both truss rod cavities look like that…. The truss rod is further inside, it’s not like the old bullet truss rod ends? Quote
addictedtobass Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 God I hope you are right. I can see no trace whatsoever of the adjustment, let alone get an Allen key in it. Will give it a go , thanks uddy Quote
Bigguy2017 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Hmmm... that looks like the sheared off end of the truss rod Quote
addictedtobass Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 I fear so. Truss rod not economic to replace on this bass. Not even sure a new (2nd hand) neck is cost effective. Just resigned myself to being duped i suppose 1 Quote
lemmywinks Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Just spotted one on Bass Players Market UK if you're looking to replace it or swap necks: Quote
addictedtobass Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 Thanks buddy. But I realise that it's not an economical repair. Will just put it down to a bad deal. Bloody shame though. Will keep fingers crossed and keep searching the usual sites in the hope a cheap neck or project bass comes up. Quote
addictedtobass Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 Either that or split it for parts or spares / repairs and start again Quote

Geek99 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Why not ask @Andyjr1515 if it can be fixed at reasonable cost Quote

lemmywinks Posted January 8 Posted January 8 You'll be taking a gamble on a knockoff neck and after all is said and done the bass will be a less valuable bitsa if that's the sort of thing that bothers you. If you really like the bass and just want to get it playing again then either swap with a like for like CV neck, go for a Mighty Mite, Allparts, MIM Fender etc neck or as said above see if someone can fix it for you. Unfortunately there's no real cheap option that doesn't have potential drawbacks. 1 Quote

Any help would be much appreciated Regards Bob A guitar tech or luthier could possibly replace the nut if the rod itself is intact. If the truss rod is broken, though, replacing the neck might be your best option. You can look for a used Squier neck or an affordable aftermarket one like Mighty Mite. Try to avoid spending too much since it's a budget bass. In the meantime, if the action is playable, you could keep using it as-is until you find a solution. Quote
addictedtobass Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 It still plays , but is borderline buzzy on the very low frets. I'll keep looking for a replacement neck and just enjoy her. Gonna look up mighty mite necks Cheers Quote
lemmywinks Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Ah if you're in no rush then I'd wait for a bargain! Quote

It looks fairly mashed to me That’s bad that someone moved that on knowing it’s got a fault, I feel for you, can’t quite see but is there enough thread in there to try fitting a truss rod nut, just a suggestion you could maybe put out a wanted ad if your looking for another neck, they do come up here now and again, good luck with your search Quote
