redbandit599 Posted Tuesday at 20:46 Posted Tuesday at 20:46 Not sure if this has a thread - I did a search, but Gas gets mentioned a lot! š Ā So, I was just doing a bit of home headphone practice and realised I have not once thought of changing my venerable Zoom B3 which has sat on my desk ready to go for years. I can' t think of many other things that I haven't changed or even thought of changing. Ā What have you got that's a permanent fixture to bass life? (BTW. I'm well aware you answers may instill GAS but let's risk it...) Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted Tuesday at 20:50 Posted Tuesday at 20:50 My flatwounds ā The more played in they are, the better they get. Ā I can't see myself ever needing/wanting to change my Ashdown ABM600 evo iv for another amp. 2 Quote
Lozz196 Posted Tuesday at 21:05 Posted Tuesday at 21:05 My 2015 US Precision, as per my photo. Whilst I may add to the herd (because I donāt take it out of my home, too much sentimental value) I would never change/replace it.Ā Quote
neepheid Posted Tuesday at 21:09 Posted Tuesday at 21:09 (edited) I've never felt any need to replace my Boss TU-2 tuner.Ā Had it since I started playing.Ā It's accurate enough, and I don't feel the need to get into a piddling contest about plus or minus cents with anyone. stewblack Posted Tuesday at 21:27 Posted Tuesday at 21:27 Similar to @Lozz196's post above, my Aria pro 2 bass has been with me since I bought it new in 1983. I've bought many other instruments to stand alongside it but it's never been 'replaced'.Ā Ā Quote
bass_dinger Posted Tuesday at 22:30 Posted Tuesday at 22:30 AKG K240 headphones.Ā Ā Bought a set when I was 18. After 38 years they wereĀ broken, so I got another set.Ā They work, they are comfortable, they are affordable (for me).Ā Ā Ā @neepheidĀ is right about the Boss TU-2 tuner (which also works as a mute switch and a 9v power distribution hub too). Solid, accurate enough for me, and reliable.Ā Ā Oooh - and my straplocks too. Solid construction, easy to operate, don't seem to wear out.Ā I still have a 30 year old set on my Lowden, and every new bass guitar gets a set too, even if it means asking on Basschat for the older version.Ā Ā And Dunlop nylonĀ .73 plectrums, for guitar.Ā Ā Ā Quote
OliverBlackman Posted Tuesday at 22:44 Posted Tuesday at 22:44 Audio technica headphones - must have had think 10 years and hopefully theyāll keep going. I did have to replace the ear pads. Cakewalk Audio Interface hasnāt failed since new in 2009! Fender P bass - bought new 2006 and not going anywhere Straps - was surprised to learn recently some folk get GAS for these! Music stand is probably 15 years old now but still fine. Korg tuner only replaced my old one because I left it in a rehearsal studio or venue Quote
barkin Posted Tuesday at 23:16 Posted Tuesday at 23:16 The hunt for my ideal bass ended when I got my Yam BB1024.Ā Ā I've also a Westone Thunder 1 that I'll never sell, but for different reasons Quote
leschirons Posted Tuesday at 23:22 Posted Tuesday at 23:22 My Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 12T combo + ext cab. Ā Light, loud, reliable, compact, does any gig, even EUB 5 string. Probably worth bugger all nowadays but it'll see me out. Quote

Hilariously over Christmas I replaced my venerable zoom b3 with the 6 or so pedals and an ehx noise gate that are my favourite models from it .. I was sick of the noise it makes.Ā Bwizz / wheee soon as I turn on anything drive / fuzz and the built in gate steals all the dynamics when used. Ā I've done everything to try to solve this issue with the b3,Ā I even use battery power banks, now it's gone total silence I don't even need the gate. I can stack fuzz ,drive chorus compression and eq blessed silence until I play if course. Edited yesterday at 08:51 by synthaside Quote

Hellzero Posted yesterday at 09:37 Posted yesterday at 09:37 Not a bass, but totally related to it, it's my JBC SL 2300 soldering station bought around 35 years ago, used a lot since then on thousands of items, almost every day in the beginning and at least once a week since a few years. Ā It was costing a lot back then, the price of a new good quality bass... Ā I'm going to change the tip for the first time after around 35 years as soon as I receive the official one ordered. Quote

BigRedX Posted yesterday at 09:45 Posted yesterday at 09:45 1 and 2. My two Gus 5-string basses. I couldn't see myself joining a band where they would be inappropriate for the image and so the only way I would sell them would be if I was physically incapable of playing them. Ā 3. My Line6 Helix. This would only be replaced if I could find a device that did everything I currently do with the Helix plus the inclusion of MIDI-triggered ADSR filters and gates. Ā 4. Logic. I've been a Logic user for over 30 years now. I have no interest in any other DAWs. Quote

uk_lefty Posted yesterday at 10:18 Posted yesterday at 10:18 I've still got most of the same picks I bought when I started bass 26 years ago. I have gone years barely using a pick to getting comfortable and feeling the need for it in the last two years. But I can't get excited about buying picks. Or jack cables. Or gig bags. Quote
KingBollock Posted yesterday at 10:18 Posted yesterday at 10:18 (edited) My BC Rich Warlock NT. Ā In 1989, I was asked what my ultimate bass would be, and that bass is exactly what I described. Black, neck through, double P, with a Widow headstock. Ā The thing is that they didnāt start making them until 1999, and they stopped production in 2009. I didnāt even know about them until theyād stopped making them. Ā I found mine on EBay in around 2012. It was a ridiculous gamble (though, with a Warwick coffin case and postage, it only came to Ā£265). The description was basic at best and the single photograph was blurry. After two weeks with no contact, I messaged the fella and he told me heād forgotten it was even up for sale. It came a couple of days later. Phew! It had a single piece of cardboard stuck to one side and the rest was wrapped in two bin liners... Ā It plays beautifully (once I had ground the bottoms off the bridge saddles to make it playable) and sounds great and my heart still skips a beat every time I look at it. It has been very well used since and suffered somewhat due to poor quality components. Some of which were binned in the intervening years and replacements fitted so it can never be 100% original. But it stays in tune, plays and sounds wonderful, looks a bit tired and these days never goes out of the house.Ā Quote
LeftyJ Posted yesterday at 11:14 Posted yesterday at 11:14 I have a whole load of instruments I couldn't part with, even if I sometimes rarely use them. It's definitely a lefty-issue for me, since many lefty guitars and basses are just so rare to come by, let alone to retrace once seller's remorse hits. I've very much regretted selling two guitars over the years, a G&L ASAT Special and an Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette Special, both of which aren't exactly common in a lefty version. The G&L is still owned by the buyer I sold it to over 10 years ago and he is very unlikely to let it go. The MM I lost track of, all I know is it went to Finland. It took me over 10 years to replace them both! Ā So my list of guitars and basses I'll never sell is quite substantialĀ Ā - Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette Special; - G&L ASAT Special; - Squier MIJ E-series Strat, my main axe for many years, which I even favoured over my previous MM Silhouette Special but in the end it couldn't keep the seller's remorse at bay; - Ibanez MC924 (my year-of-birth bass, 1983); - Warwick Streamer LX5 - because it was my go-to bass in my previous band, and many good memories cling to it; - Ellio Martina Forza 5, the bass I've had the longest and which was my go-to for everything before the Warwick. It's just special. And sadly the luthier who built it passed away last month; - Status Graphite S2 Classic 5-string, my current main axe; - Fender MIJ '75 Jazz Bass reissue. I rarely play it, but when I do it just always puts a smile on my face. It's had a lot of mods since I bought it to make it even more "mine". Strong connection with this one ; - Atelier Z Baby Z-4J, just silly amounts of fun to play! None of my basses are easier to move around on, it's a shortscale but decidedly modern in every way and not your thumpy vintage sounding little bass. Ā The others are interchangeable, but the list above is pretty sacred to me. Quote
