Ive got a float of gear which I take a punt on buying, trying and moving on, but the majority of my stuff isn’t going anywhere. Not boring at all. It's where I want to be one day. 1 Quote

I’m beginning to realise that after 38 years of bass playing, probably 30+ of them gigging, I know what works for me on a practical level and I probably already own it. Cant afford anything else anyway so enjoying what I’ve got instead. Edited January 8 by bassbiscuits 2 Quote
BassAgent Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Multiple basses. My 1966 Jazz, my fretless Jazz and my 1971 Precision will never be replaced. Quote
Ed_S Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I'm still fine with my gen 2 Barefaced Super Twelve and Midget cabs, and haven't been tempted to replace them with any of their newer 12" designs. I think just about everything else that I've owned for any length of time has been considered for its recyclable monetary value at some point along the way, but honourable mentions go to the TU-2 tuner that could only be replaced by a TU-3, the SansAmp BDDI v1 preamp that could only be replaced by a BDDI v2 and the Line 6 G30 wireless that I wouldn't mind replacing with something that works at 5GHz but can't find anything comparable yet. franzbassist Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) My Sirius singlecut by Franz bassguitars. It is the perfect fretless for me. Edited January 8 by franzbassist 3 Quote
LowB_FTW Posted January 8 Posted January 8 My Vox AC50 amplifier head and my Vox VR115 speaker cabinet. Neither of these get any usage these days. The amp head hasn't been used in so long (was in England with my mum for 20+ years just being stored for me) that the internals all need a good seeing to by a more qualified person than I. It's the only amp+cab that I've ever owned, and it sounds immense. I'd really not want to get rid of it if I had the choice. My Washburn AB-35. I love playing this bass so much. My frozen shoulder has meant it hasn't got the attention it deserves recently, but soon, hopefully. Mark Quote
NancyJohnson Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I've got a black, four-way extension cable that has a sticker on it that says, 'The Dags'. My dad got it for me (I suspect he may have swiped it from work). I can date this to 1978. 4 2 Quote

-asdfgh2- Posted January 11 Posted January 11 (edited) My first fretless. I might conceivably ask to be buried with it. It's an 80s Tokai Jazz Edited January 14 by -asdfgh2- Quote
Leonard Smalls Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I suspect my 42 year old Wal is going nowhere! 2 Quote
dmccombe7 Posted January 11 Posted January 11 (edited) Interesting question. I have 3 basses i would never replace for different reasons. Warwick Thumb NT89 because its just gorgeous and the first bass i bought after meeting meeting my wife. She went along with me to Sound Control in Glasgow. Overwater Progress 6er fretless custom because my wife bought it for me for my 50th and at the time it's what i had dreamed off for a few yrs altho i started of with just a custom 4 string bass that moved onto 6string and then all out fretless to force myself to be challenged. I wasn't playing in bands at that time. Within 2 yrs i was back into bands and have never been so busy. Fender CIJ Geddy Signature that is just so nice to play. Its probably my fav bass. I bought this when i decided it was time to look for another band and ended up in a Deep Purple tribute. The Warwick and Overwater only leave the house when asked to do recordings for a mates studio. Don't think i'll part with my Mesa Mpulse 600 and Mesa PH212 cab because they just sound so sweet together. They are now used as home practice since getting the Subway rig. Bagman Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I’m unlikely to be able to replace my L2 Steinberger in fact it’s in my will so the kids / grandkids know to pay attention Quote
mikebass456 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 My Status Energy 5 string from 1991. Not used it for quite a few years now (made sure to take the batteries out!). Always hoping to get back into a suitable band, as it sounds awesome through my orange rig! 🤘 2 Quote

I've bought many other instruments to stand alongside it but it's never been 'replaced'. Lovely bass. I manged to pick one up for a friend some time in the 90s. It was a mess. I told him how to clean it up with a toothbrush and some cleaner I had. He spent a week sorting it out and bought it round and I gave him a set of my old strings and strung it for him. I can't remember his name, but it was a great steal. Wish I'd been able to buy it for myself. 1 Quote
TimR Posted January 13 Posted January 13 My '87 Jackson Charvel SB2 complete with pointy headstock. It's my backup bass that I take to gigs. I've only played it 3 times in the last 22 years. Might get it out next week. Quote

I can remember like it was yesterday when I first picked it up in the music shop and played a couple of notes. In many ways I've been looking for that sound ever since, but of course it was just the first time I'd heard a decent bass. You can never recreate a 'first' 2 Quote
