RSV60 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) Gave my " Leader" 90's bass a cleanup and checkup today. Couldn't find anything on the internet anymore, so "posting time" (well over 30 years old). It is a bass from a Dutch builder, v.d.Hoeven from 's-Hertogenbosch. The small, somewhat "strange" body contains hollow resonance spaces and is therefore very light. While playing, the headstock could feel to tip over a little bit, but nothing serious. Shaller hardware, EMG pickup and preamp. Neck Thru:maple/Boire Body: Boire Fingerboard: Ebony it is not to everyone's taste, but plays easily and has a great sound. The basses where build as i know for a short time (end 80's begin 90's). Hellzero Posted January 9 Posted January 9 The luthier seems to still be active, here is his website: https://www.richardvanderhoevenguitarsandbasses.nl/ And his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/RvanderHoevenGuitars/ Quote
RSV60 Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Wow, good one. I feel stupid not finding this on the name of the builder himself. Quote

It’s was a great bass, a bit of a Warwick kind of vibe. The body is pretty small so when I grew older (and a bit fatter 😂), it didn’t suit me anymore😉.. Mine had bartolini pickups. It sounded great and played really nice. Fantastic build quality! Here’s me slapping the Leader back in 91 or 92… Edited January 10 by RonC 3 Quote
RSV60 Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 RonC, nice one. I know exactly what you mean😆 years have been “kind” for me as well. I sometimes play the Leader, can’t sell it.🤷🏻 1 Quote
RonC Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I sold it to buy a stingray back then. The stingray is gone also... that one i do mis. I still have a brochure of Leader somewhere, i'll make a copy to post it one of these days! Quote
RSV60 Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 Sold my stingray for an Overwater and kept the Leader. Nobody wants the Leader or only for a very low price🤷🏻 But it’s in the family for 35 years now🙂 Quote
RonC Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I had trouble getting a decent price for it also… it was quite an expensive bass when I bought it though (I believe around the 4000 Dutch Guilders). the highest bid I got was 900€…. eventually someone wanted to trade it for a stingray. (Which I sold because I didn’t like the color), then I bought a natural stingray back.. I always prefer natural wood basses. Quote
bremen Posted January 11 Posted January 11 As RonC said, looks very Warwicky. You wouldn't be able to stop playing it though, it'd never stay upright in a stand. Or leaning against your amp. Quote
RonC Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Sometimes (like now) I do regret that I let this one go… but you can’t keep all your basses… Quote
