Dougzabass Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Just received my latest purchased CHOWNY SWB-1 SHORT SCALE from Stuart Paterson aka (songofthewind) and can’t praise him enough for the communication from start to end with countless updates and information. It’s restored my confidence in the genuine people who are still out there. I’ve just tuned it and had a quick tickle on the strings. Boy this little beauty packs a lot of punch 🤜 If you’ve never heard of them I recommend you check it out. Obviously it won’t be to everyone’s taste but for a short scale bass and I’ve limited finger flexibility it feels like it’s going to be perfect for me and no brainier for someone starting to play and the more experienced. 4 Quote

Ive owned one of these and I really liked it. I know Simon who does the setups and I’ve played a few at his place. Really like then. 3 Quote

ossyrocks Posted Friday at 22:39 Posted Friday at 22:39 Cool! I’ve known Scott for over 30 years now, we’ve done probably more than 100 gigs together. In fact we met on a gig where we were both brought in as deps for the same band, it was Christmas Eve sometime in the early 90’s. I remember him designing that bass and having the first one hand built by Brian Eastwood. It was quite special that first one. Rob 3 Quote

Rob I’ve got one, I upgraded the pick ups to dimarzio jazz ones , made quite a difference, not that the stock ones were too bad anyway. Yes lovely little basses indeed and yes I’ve always thought that the one Eastwood made for Scott was sooo classy and have more than a few times wondered whether to ask them to do me one. A 32 scale version with multi coils would do me 🤣.love the small , alembic sc styled body. Don’t suppose you know if Scott’s original has a slimmer body than the chowny version do you? I do like a slim body ( haven’t one myself though 🤣) best regards, jeff 2 Quote

Rob I sound like a sad old sod but had to send my appreciation of the bass to him. Probably deleted it as he’ll have a lot of junk in his mailbox. I have rheumatoid arthritis in the hands especially and don’t have the same flow as a lot of players and just wanted to say how it has brought the enjoyment back to playing. I’m still rubbish but I’m a trier 😂😂😂 3 Quote

Len_derby Posted Saturday at 11:14 Posted Saturday at 11:14 I like the look of these and hope to try one when I get the chance. But, merely on the looks, I’m wondering if it suffers from head-dive? I’ll be happy if I’m wrong. 1 Quote

It’s been designed with everything taken into playing with comfort. As I say it suits me and my opinion. I recommend listening to Scott Whitley on YouTube describing how he designed it. He definitely knows his way around a bass.😉 1 Quote

We always hear opinions of the unsung heroes off bass. For me he’s definitely up there with them. Such a flowing talent deserves more recognition. 2 Quote
