grumpy-grapefruit Posted Wednesday at 14:22 Posted Wednesday at 14:22 Apologies if this isn't the right forum but I have a dilemma and need some professional help! It is beyond time for me to upgrade my amplifier to something more gig suitable. And more importantly I have permission from the wife! However she does have a condition that I'm struggling to fill and was hoping some people here might be able to help. The condition is this; It must fit in the alcove where I'm able to hide it in a built in cupboard. This alcove is 4ft wide and 8ft tall so there are no problems there. However it is only 14 1/2" deep. Once I build the cupboard I'm gonna be left with 13 1/2" to play with. Is there a slim line combo or cab that I can squirrel away in said space? Any help is appreciated. Quote
jrixn1 Posted Wednesday at 15:03 Posted Wednesday at 15:03 Most of these will fit: https://barefacedaudio.com/collections/10cr-bass-cabs https://barefacedaudio.com/collections/12xn-bass-cabs https://www.lfsys.co.uk/bassguitarproducts What are your other criteria (cost, loudness, weight)? Quote
Lozz196 Posted Wednesday at 15:04 Posted Wednesday at 15:04 (edited) GR212 was going to be my suggestion too, and there’s one up for grabs on here at present. Edited Wednesday at 15:04 by Lozz196 Quote

Cost wise id like to keep it sub £1000 if possible. (Realise that I'll probably have to go 2nd hand for that.) Loudness, has to be giggable. (300-500watt) Weight isn't a problem as long as it's not gonna kill me. (Sub 40kg please, says my spine). Quote

Chienmortbb Posted Wednesday at 20:45 Posted Wednesday at 20:45 The LFSys Monaco would probably suit you well. I had one but getting a bit long in the tooth, I needed a lighter cab so swapped it for a 10" Monza. Neither cab has ever broken a sweat, and the only difference I noticed was that I had to turn up the volume slightly once I changed to the 10". Other cabs may suit you as well, and of course we can only recommend what we have experienced. 1 Quote
lemmywinks Posted Wednesday at 21:31 Posted Wednesday at 21:31 There a used GR AT212 Slim at Bass Direct at the moment, almost 14" so a tiny bit deeper than your alcove though. Also £200 dearer than the one that sold on here which is gonna hurt. Quote
warwickhunt Posted Wednesday at 21:48 Posted Wednesday at 21:48 https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.html?modelCode=0707-ACO 14".... can you not jiggle the cupboard to fit? Quote

David Morison Posted Thursday at 09:17 Posted Thursday at 09:17 Note that for most cabs, you'll need an extra few cm behind it to clear the speakon & cable, which usually sticks out straight backwards. That will reduce your useable cab depth to perhaps 30cm or so, which will really narrow down your options unfortunately. @Downunderwonder's suggestion of a curtain rather than a door is looking like a really good idea at this point, if you can persuade Mrs Grapefruit. 1 Quote

Fair point actually, probably more than a few cm given how rigid amp to cab cables usually are. Perhaps a cable with a 90 degree speakon connector would be a good idea as well? The Phil Jones C8 and C4 are only 12.4"/32cm deep and look very smart too especially in red, I have the C8 Lite with neo drivers but they only do the regular versions now. Of all the cabs I've owned it's the most "front room worthy" in terms of appearance: https://www.pjbworld.com/cms/c8-2/ https://www.pjbworld.com/cms/c4-2/ 1 Quote

Makes them much closer to the cabinet. Of course, they only fit some speakONs which I can supply and supply is limited. Quote
tauzero Posted Thursday at 15:18 Posted Thursday at 15:18 I doubt the OP will be gigging it in his cupboard so the speakons are probably not relevant. I have just decided to sell my BC 112 mk3, built from a @stevie kit, which is 315mm/12.4" deep. There's plenty of detail about it in this thread: I think it would be reasonable to describe it as the predecessor to stevie's LFSys range of cabs (obviously they've evolved since then). I'm just not using it - I seem to have finished up with rather more cabs than I need. 1 Quote
grumpy-grapefruit Posted Thursday at 15:19 Author Posted Thursday at 15:19 @warwickhunt I'm gonna be doing all the jiggling to get the 13 1/2" as it is. @Downunderwonder I personally think having a nice amp on display is rather tasteful so I'm not sure how well that "tasteful" idea will go down with Mrs Grumpy. @David Morison the space will just be storage not actually need to plug in and work. It's a out of sight, out of mind type situation. I'm really liking the barefaced suggestion, but it looks like they don't come up too often 2nd hand. However we shall persevere. Cheers for all the help btw. Tis appreciated. Quote
David Morison Posted Thursday at 15:33 Posted Thursday at 15:33 Fair point, for some reason I'd defaulted to assuming we all tend to leave cabs set up ready to use but obviously, not. Several of the Ashdown Rootmaster series of cabs are shallow enough - the 414, 210 & 112 are all 336mm deep, the 115 343mm, so would all fit. I haven't used them however, so can't comment on their tone. Quote
