Power amps

I'm in need of an amp and thinking about running a preamp pedal in to a power amp. I used to effectively do this by running my Two Notes Le Bass in to the effects return of an Orange Terror to bypass the Orange Terror's preamp because it sounded terrible.

Are there any good power amps for running this sort of setup? I'll probably want 300 - 500 Watts and I'll probably use a Two Notes ReVolt Bass.

Would I be better off buying a cheap Peavey, Ashdown or Hartke amp and just using the same setup as before?

GSS Baby Sumo here in the marketplace sounds ideal to me. I was thinking of the same thing.

Something UL certified would be a good start.

 

A Quilter BB800 is designed for that sort of thing. Compact package.

I bought a Crown 2 channel PA amp for around £350. Bridges to 1500W into 4 ohms... Been faultless in 4 years - only slight downside is you need to get a bridged speakon lead, or just use bare wire across the channels...

I'll second the Quilter, that's exactly what I use mine for. I have a Tronographic Rusty Box as a pre for one band and Sansamp VT Bass DI for the other. Small, light, and headroom for days.

There have been developments. Someone offered me a nice Ashdown amp so I'll no longer be going for a power amp.
