la bam Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Hi all, I got this along with a bass, so I'm wanting to fit it in a bass. Firstly, does anyone know what it is? I'm thinking a tonestyler type tone control. How do I wire it to my existing cheapo p bass? Quote
PaulThePlug Posted January 21 Posted January 21 How many positions? 5 plus by pass? Wire out the vol pot as you would to a tone pot. I'm still undecided if tone should come out the vol in - full pup... rather than be influenced by the vol control coming out the wiper socket out? Anyone? I've used the Artec QP on a couple http://artecsound.com/pickups/electronics/qdd.html Quote
Norris Posted January 21 Posted January 21 It looks like a multi-position tone switch, similar to that fitted into an Aria SB-1000 Quote
PaulThePlug Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) If you have a multi meter? One wire should buzz out on all settings - ground - vol pot case The other at the different switch positions - hot or + from the Pup in (or hack out?) of vol What are the colour of the wires? I'm Red / Green Colour blind! Edited January 21 by PaulThePlug Quote
la bam Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 This is the existing set up. With my tonestyler type having only red and black. I'm not sure what to do. Quote
PaulThePlug Posted January 21 Posted January 21 You will need longer wires to get from the jack to the Vol... Your new Tone will then jack out and ground (or pup in and ground) Quote
kodiakblair Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Last time I made up a varitone pot I just replaced the tone pot with it. Followed this from a boy on TalkBass. 1 Quote
PaulThePlug Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) This would be wired to the vol pot same place as to the jack socket, so you could wire it across the jack socket! (INPUT RED / GND BLACK on your Tone Switch) Or... you can wire the + to the pickup in on the vol pot. Edited January 21 by PaulThePlug Quote
PaulThePlug Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) More pics... Cheapo P Mod or Bitsa are the bassic of bass... everyone should do one! Or more... Might try a spare QTP in this? Edited January 21 by PaulThePlug Quote
la bam Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Thanks everyone, much appreciated. I'll give that a go. Quote
