Need help verifying if electronics are original on my 1982 MIJ JB62 reissue

Recently bought this bass, it’s a 1982 fender jb62 reissue from the fujigen era. I see many basses from this year with cloth wiring instead of plastic. Mine was specifically 9-29-82 and I found one also with the same date and it had cloth as opposed to my plastic wiring. It was sold to me as an all original, but this has me slightly skeptical now. Any insight appreciated

Fender Japan made basses at different price points so you would expect the pickup and wiring to be different.

From memory of my JV squier series the pickup wires were cloth covered and the rest were not

I appreciate the reply, I only managed to find one more jazz bass mij in early 82 that had plastic wires over the cloth ones. However I couldn’t find anything online that said why they might have done some with plastic and some with cloth even though they were the same year month and model.

because fender labeled domestic ones they would have been making at various price points. Some might have had fancy pickups, some cheaper? that's a guess

also forgot to mention I also found some that had a mix of both plastic wires and cloth that also were apparently original according to the sellers listing

The thing is - I would question if it even matters? 
The nice thing about this era Fujigen is the necks, and body woods - the ones I've tried just play far nicer than their price. I'm a bit sceptical as to why unmolested pickups or electronics matter, it's not a pre-CBS... if it were me, play it, stick whatever pickups you like in it, and play some more

Everything depends on your type of 1982 Jazz Bass.

 

Is it a JV series?

 

When yes, only the pickups were American, so indeed with cloth wires, but the remaining wires were mainly plastic types, but sometimes fully cloth, hey, that's Fender.

 

I own a 1982 Squier JV Stratocaster that still has the sticker on the pickguard saying "Pick up made in USA".

 

 

When no, the pickups were Japanese with only plastic wires all over.

 

The pots on yours are Japanese period correct models.

I'm sure 21frets or somewhere said only the first batch of Strats had USA pickups, and the other models had Japanese?

That's correct too, but those were all the real JV's first years, so 1982 and up to somewhere in 1983, then they switched to fully Japanese stuff.

Thank you for the reply. I read somewhere that only the first few months of 1982 production had full plastic wires. Not sure how true that is, but yes mine is also a JV serial as well. I just found it strange that I found another with the exact same day as mine with different wiring. But I am told that mine looks more period correct/legit now, which is reassuring.

Well the 1982 fender japan catalogue has at least three spec levels of jazz bass which would have been at different price points.

@rhokuza, your bass wasn't made the same day, only the neck was, so you can't compare the two basses as they may be different models. 😉
