Bought this album back in 1980 when I was 15

Paul Grays first album with The Damned

Playing a Ric’ 4000 (correct me if I’m wrong)

If you’ve not heard it, it’s the band starting to head off in different directions, but you got to check out the live side of this double album (I play the vinyl a lot, hence the vinyl reference)

Especially Smash it up part 1, the bass sounds so good and is right up there

They're a great band, really good live. I don't know why they get labelled as punk. They did a handful of punk songs before going off in another direction, almost prog at times.

One of my favourite gigs was The Damned supporting Motorhead.

It was a 4001. IIRC it was yellow... or was it blue? 91% sure it was yellow.

I love this album and how Paul just adds so much to it. I just wish the production had been a bit better. It always seems to lack something that I can't work out.

I think I have most of their albums but personally I am a massive fan of the Phantasmagoria era, which is when I first got to know them. When my parents met with friends socially, their kids would always get banished to the bedrooms of which ever child lived there. My parents had two friends who had older sons and they had the most amazing collection of records. The impact of those records was massive on me, mostly punk / alternative from the punk era through to the mid 80s. I remember seeing all the old Damned albums there too, including the Black album.

Saw them last month and it was absolutely the best I've ever seen them! Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies, Paul Gray and Monty Oxymoron.  Just superb.
