fretmeister Posted January 24 Posted January 24 it’s sounding mostly ace, just getting some warbling on the G string on high fretted notes so I suspect either the pickup is too high or the string is twisted. I’ll sort that out tomorrow. I went with a 0.1uF cap and it goes super dark and reggae like with the tone fully down. and I did my maths right… it’s bang on 7lb. 13 Quote

I might start planning another one now! It does seem to be quite a good way of getting another bass into the house past the boss. Parts arriving is far less obvious! I can't afford a EBMM Joe Dart but I do have a good MM type pickup (Aguilar), tuners, an old BBOT bridge and a selection of old pots lying about. Might have to start looking at ebay for cheap bodies... Won't even have to be painted! 2 Quote
TbirdnTalman Posted January 24 Posted January 24 it looks lovely - how did you finish the body? Quote

Jackroadkill Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Wow, that's a really smart. I love a good bitsa. I've not experimented with capacitor values on a bass before and as I don't use the top half of the tone pot's sweep very often I wonder if a lower value cap might be fun on one of my basses. Cracking job all round, sir! Quote
fretmeister Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 Fully up is the same as any other fully up. It’s the amount of treble cut available that is the change. I really like it. Quote
fretmeister Posted Sunday at 20:07 Author Posted Sunday at 20:07 It's been about a month... I love this thing. I've got rounds on it at the moment for a bit more clank but the over powered tone control really knocks it down when needed. When the year of abstinence is over I might have to think about making another one so I always have one for rounds and one for flats! I can only assume that my new love for a P bass is just a sign of getting old and nearing death. 1 Quote

You'll know when the Reaper is approaching: you'll be building short-scale basses. A few years in you yet, our kid. 1 Quote
