Chienmortbb Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I noticed that @Bass Direct have a Mark King Alembic in stock. It made me wonder if anyone has had more signature products? Marcus Miller excepted? Quote

thodrik Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Billy Sheehan comes to mind. Basses, preamps, pedals, strings. The guy likes to put his name on stuff that he believes in. Quote

Reggaebass Posted January 24 Posted January 24 When I was checking out Yamaha basses a few years back they had a few nice signature ones , they had, Nathan East - John Patitucci - Billy Sheehan 1 Quote
Bigwan Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Rex and Billy Sheehan as previously said... Ashdown now doing a Rex Rootmaster I see... Quote
Maude Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I like that Billy Sheehan is/was actively involved in creating the Attitude basses, and uses them pretty much exclusively because they are what he wanted. He's also very enthusiastic about them. A lot of signature models are just pretty stock basses in a different colour or a certain pickup. The same can be said for Jack Casady as Mr. Sheehan. 4 Quote
itu Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) Stan the Man (Alembic, Löwenherz, EBS, Carl Thompson...), Jeff Berlin (Markbass, Cort...), Les Claypool (Carl Thompson, A/DA...), Phil Lesh (Modulus Graphite, Ritter...), Stuart Hamm (Kubicki, Fender...), and the list goes on. Certainly not least: Jonas Hellborg. Edited January 24 by itu Quote

If you watch any demo video he does about the Attitude basses or the EBS pedals, you really get the impression that he was heavily involved in the development process and he isn't just sticking his name on something for the sake of it. 2 Quote

I avoid signature stuff because you pay extra for the same old same old. It's much the same with those "ex-famous player" instruments. You get a standard mass-produced piece of kit at an inflated price. No thanks. 2 Quote
tauzero Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Gary Willis? While it's just the one manufacturer AFAIK, there's a vast range of Gary Willis basses from them. Could I give an honourable mention to Brian May, who has a bass in his Brian May instruments range despite not exactly being renowned as a bassist. Quote

I walked away from buying a Fender Marcus Miller V for this very same reason. Quote
Wolverinebass Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Let's not confuse "endorsee" or "endorsed by" with signature model. I would say the hands down winner is Mark King. Nine different models of Status Kingbass. NINE. All of them are just options of each other. That's impressive. Not just for Rob Green who milked the "I must play Mr. Pink by Level 42 with the exact same gear as Mark was using on tour!" crowd for everything they've got. Rex is catching up though. Obviously the new Pantera tour wasn't such a money spinner after all. 2 Quote

Doctor J Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Mark King is the King for a reason. If you've got gear that doesn't have his name on it, that's some rare shizzle. Quote
itu Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Hellborg: - Wal double neck, and a fretted one - 27 fret bass (Italian Reccanati?) - Status (36 V circuitry) - Wechter - Warwick - amps and cabs like TE, EBS, Warwick... He's obviously been searching for the perfect sound. 1 Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) Frank Bello… Fender ESP Spector The new Spector is cack too… Jeff Berlin Peavey Dean Cort Brian Bromberg Peavey Dean Kiesel the same bass 3 ways… Bunny Brunel Gibson Carvin ESP Lee Sklar Gibson Warwick Dingwall imagine if Jaco had lived - he would’ve been an Endorsement dream… Mark King Jaydee Pangborn Status GB Fender Alembic Trace Elliot Ashdown TC Electronic Markbass who can blame them if it’s a means of income… Edited January 25 by AndyTravis 3 Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I feel like Jonas Hellborg might have the biggest musical recognition/signature gear ratio. Who does he play with - can anyone name a project, album or song without Google? I know I can't, but the gear is everywhere! Quote
Hellzero Posted January 25 Posted January 25 He played with: John McLaughlin, Shawn Lane, Bill Laswell, Tony Williams, Mattias IA Eklundh, Buckethead, Trilok Gurtu, Michael Shrieve, Ginger Baker ... and Kollektiv was one of his project as well as many others... Plus another 15 or more albums elsewhere in the house or on other shelves. I'm a big fan... 1 Quote

Same for Jeff Berlin. That said, the old Hellborg Warwick amps looked and sounded something really special, clearly a lot of thought went into those, not like Rex Brown just slapping his name on any old thing that gets offered his way. 1 Quote
