fretmeister Posted January 25 Posted January 25 My bitsa P has a “pull the strings through” bridge and it’s annoying me already! I’m used to quick change bridges now. I’m looking at replacing with a Hipshot B Type Fender mount, but are there any others with the usual 5 screw Fender mount that are cheaper? The Hipshot is quite expensive. I don’t want the hassle of having to plug holes and redrill for something that isn’t a Fender mount. ta. 1 Quote
LeftyJ Posted Tuesday at 09:01 Posted Tuesday at 09:01 (edited) Gotoh 404SJ is a fairly affordable option with 5 screws, and options for either quick change or strings through body. If you want something more like a vintage bridge Hipshot make a very solid Vintage Bass Bridge which is essentially a bent plate design like the classic Fender, but with a beefier baseplate. They're twice the price of the Gotoh though. Edited Tuesday at 09:02 by LeftyJ 1 Quote
neepheid Posted Tuesday at 09:02 Posted Tuesday at 09:02 (edited) Sorry, I could only see the Hipshots or Albridge if you want a direct fit. But that Gotoh mentioned above is probably about as cheap as I've seen a solution for your problem. Don't think you'll beat that. Great spot, @LeftyJ. If you're not going to reuse the old strings, you could just cut them - then they'll slip right out of there. Edited Tuesday at 09:04 by neepheid 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted Tuesday at 09:15 Author Posted Tuesday at 09:15 I do reuse old strings quite a lot - swapping between rounds and flats depending on what I'm playing. In an ideal world I'd have duplicate basses with flats and rounds but I don't have the money for that. 14 minutes ago, LeftyJ said: Gotoh 404SJ is a fairly affordable option with 5 screws, and options for either quick change or strings through body. Andyjr1515 Posted Tuesday at 09:21 Posted Tuesday at 09:21 (edited) Great bridge - used it a number of times in the past. Just double check (I think Gotoh have proper dimensioned drawings on their website) that the hole positions match...not to cast doubt on Gotoh as much as my belief that 'there's nothing standard about Fender standard sizes' 😀 Edited Tuesday at 09:21 by Andyjr1515 2 Quote
fretmeister Posted Tuesday at 10:19 Author Posted Tuesday at 10:19 I really ought to buy some callipers for more accurate measuring purposes. Quote
Hellzero Posted Tuesday at 10:20 Posted Tuesday at 10:20 Excellent recommendation @LeftyJ. I had this bridge on a few basses and it was as good as an Hipshot, except that it's a fixed strings spacing like the style B, but who cares on a Fenderish bass. Quote
LeftyJ Posted Tuesday at 10:45 Posted Tuesday at 10:45 There's a 404BO too, which has exactly the same baseplate but slightly different saddles (which are brass on the BO instead of steel on the SJ). Probably won't matter much. String spacing is the same on both. 1 Quote
