Musicman20 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 My P-Bass gas has risen. With the new range of USA Fender's, I feel I have to get a USA P-Bass. I have a Jap one which was my first 'real' bass about 10 years ago, but its my workhorse. I want a P bass in Sunburst! Standard 4 string, not sure whether maple or rosewood board. But its that or some sort of 5 string. But im thinking USA P-Bass with flats! What doesnt help is that now my post grad exams are nearly done, work immediately offered me more hours, which means more gear! Take a look! Rayman Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 You could pimp the Japanese one with a nice new pickup. Otherwise....just blow your stash on a nice new MIA and whack some Thomastic Flats on there, splendid. Quote

Not that I like Precisions you know! How you getting on with your old plank Russ? Quote
Rayman Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I'm waiting for your '73 to come on the market . Love it mate, love it. It's just great, why, are you missing it? Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 6, 2009 Author Posted June 6, 2009 I have to have one. I just LOVE P bass tone...far too much. Quote
Machines Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Yep I know how you feel. To be fair i've got a cheapo Hohner Precision-a-like but I want the proper Fender shape and to be able to have interchangeable pickguards etc.. Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 6, 2009 Author Posted June 6, 2009 I never gassed that much as I was waiting for Fender to make their changes to the line. Now they have, they seem even better. The necks are incredible. For some reason the new ones just sound so 'ommmp' its unreal. Pure classic bass Quote
steve-soar Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 I've got a 15 year old Korean Squier P bass with flats, EMG's plus EMG Jazz pup and a Gotoh bridge, I cost not a lot but gives me a lot of pleasure. Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 6, 2009 Author Posted June 6, 2009 Looks sweet! Thats what I was thinking, put flats on it, or on my old Jap Fender P. <MMMMMM! Quote
dave_bass5 Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) Ive got Flats on my White 2008 P5 and its the best tone (and Bass) ive ever owned. sounds fantastic through my MB heads. Edited June 8, 2009 by dave_bass5 Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 Im thinking Sunburst with rosewood neck. Not sure why rosewood....ive never tried a P with maple... Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 Oh heck no! Im all for traditional shapes Quote

You know you want to Quote
barry44 Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 i have just satisfied some P bass gas, thanks Jezzaboy. and i have never been happier!! Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 16, 2009 Author Posted June 16, 2009 Excellent Does anyone have any views on the maple on Sunburst? Quote
thedontcarebear Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I much prefer maple fretboards personally, think they look nicer, not too bothered about a difference in sound! Quote
Rayman Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I love the maple both in terms of looks and sound/feel. Maybe a fraction brighter in tone than rosewood, but really, most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference in tone. TI flats fitted too, old school vibe in spades, no effects, just the bass, a cord and an amp, marvellous. Quote
barry44 Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 what about black/black/maple? yum Quote
Happy Jack Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 You can guess where I sit on this issue: http://tinypic.com/a/vdcz/3 Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 16, 2009 Author Posted June 16, 2009 I agree...the feel of maple is much nicer...for me anyway. Im not massively bothered....but I think with my prefering a slightly snappier tone, the maple neck might be for me. Awesome pics btw....they have made me GAASSSS even more. Might take the plunge very soon....! Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Hey guys Right...so ive wittled it down to two colours....and I know these website pics arent perfect, and that sunburst can be different in reality. Sunburst with maple? Sunburst with rosewood? Lastly...I dont think I should...as my Jazz is EXACTLY the same, but Olympic White with maple? My head is telling me to go for Sunburst with maple....as I tend to prefer maple necks....only a tiny bit though! Quote
BarnacleBob Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Sunburst and maple definitely! Rosewood - common as muck! BB Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Yes! Maple !!!!!! Cheers (I would get white...but 3 white basses would be plan silly). Quote
nash Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 man i'd go for a Jap SB with Maple and stick a badass on and a nice EMG. sounds so good. Quote
