I recently got a used 2019 Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass that I believe is completely original.

However when I open it up there seem to be three wires from each pickup, one white and two black both of which are connected to ground.

For one thing the standard arrangement seems to be two wires per p/u, for another, both blacks going to ground means the extra wire is redundant.

Anyone have a clue what's going on here?

Edit: Doh! The extra wire is from the pickup cavity shield! It came to me within a couple of minutes of posting. Unless I'm wrong of course...
