Happy Jack Posted February 2 Posted February 2 We're not going to be a Stones Tribute, but we fancy playing the best songs written by the Stones PLUS the best Stones songs that they didn't actually play. We can choose our own selection from the Stones back catalogue - at least, that part of the catalogue when they were actually making great music. For the non-Stones Stones there are some obvious markers: Rocks and Moving On Up by Primal Scream thrust themselves to the front of the queue, elbowing aside Bohemian Like You by the Dandy Warhols, but I'm sure I'm missing loads of great candidates. Throwing this out to The Basschat Massive ... what have you got for me? Quote
Cato Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Kings of Leon are heavily influenced by the Stones. Sex on Fire is the obvious one but this was probably their biggest hit prior to that. 1 Quote
The fasting showman Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Rebel Rebel by Bowie Private World - New York Dolls Iggy's 'Fall in love with me' could work as a 2 chord vamp at the end of another song. Television-'Ain't that Nothin'?' I'm stretching the brief a bit far perhaps. Let me know if you need a dep Quote
Phil Starr Posted February 2 Posted February 2 So many ways to go with this. 60's R&B, guitar riffs, the Stones blues roots. Will you have a harp player? Quote

Personally, I'd like a 2nd guitar and someone doubling keys & sax, but our first gig is too close to think about trying to recruit someone in time. A dedicated harp player always feels like a luxury item unless he's also the lead vocalist. Sad to relate, our frontman is actually another bass player. 🤣 Quote

howdenspur Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Always thought this had a Stonesy intro at least. Quote
Steve Browning Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Rosalyn by the Pretty Things. Has the bonus of having a founding member of the Stones on it. Quote
casapete Posted February 3 Posted February 3 (edited) Bowie’s ’Rebel Rebel’. Apparently written with the intention of him wanting it to have a Stones vibe. Also ‘ Watch that man’. The Georgia Satellites ‘Keep your hands to yourself’. Sheryl Crow - ‘If it makes you happy’ & ‘My favourite mistake’ Them / Van Morrison - ‘Gloria’. The Faces - ‘Stay with me’ ( featuring a current Rolling Stone 😁). Edited February 3 by casapete Quote
