tegs07 Posted Thursday at 15:10 Posted Thursday at 15:10 Well the term Trumpcession is gaining traction in the markets so he might achieve this imminently. 8 minutes ago, peteb said: I don't think that he really cares if it will be all bad, as long as he is remembered more than his predecessors ! Agent 00Soul Posted Thursday at 16:41 Posted Thursday at 16:41 I went down the rabbit hole a bit. Some stuff from US socials: "Many people support Trump as a wrecking ball. They view society itself is irredeemably corrupted (some for religious reasons, some for anti-capitalist reasons) and desire it to be fully destroyed. Because they think they will get to decide what takes his place." Here's an amalgamation of Trump voters the person above made: "Yeah man, I didn't vote for Trump, I didn't vote at all, but I wanted Trump to win. I just think we need a new paradigm. Sure a lot of people will get hurt in the process, and maybe it's a little privileged of me, but I think it would be better if things collapsed, then people could just live, like, a more day-to-day existence and I think that would be good. Death is nothing to be afraid of." 1 Quote

There is bound to be a reaction to the political elite which have been self-serving and eroded liberties in the name of some greater good; we're seeing it across European countries too. The yanks just went for the nuclear option. But then again what was their choice really, given the candidates in front of them. From our perspective this side of the pond, neither Obama nor Biden were particularly our besties either. 2 Quote

Staggering on Posted Thursday at 22:16 Posted Thursday at 22:16 (edited) Breaking news: Things just changed again, details are still unclear but some tariffs are now changed to an April deadline. Our federal government is studying the documents before commenting and same for provincial governments. This is really bizarre. 🙄 Edit: Of course this may change at any time. Can’t help but feel this will empower the US to continue their strategy of owning global natural resources and Ukraine will be simply handed over to Russia once their resources dry up. Why wait for that? As long as he's getting the minerals, Trump won't care whether he gets them from Ukraine or Russia. Edited Thursday at 22:24 by Earbrass Quote

You know that US tariffs are going to be applied to imports, and paid by US consumers? Well...your Ontario premier Doug Ford, leader of Canada’s most populous province, said that starting on Monday, the province will charge 25% more for electricity shipped to 1.5 million Americans in response to Mr Trump’s tariff plan. Ontario provides electricity to Minnesota, New York and Michigan. Only shame is that two of those are Democrat leaning states. i.e. he is applying tariffs to exports and charging US consumers more for their electricity! With the money going to Canadian coffers and not the US treasury. Oh that's not going to be popular with US voters who are going to blame...well who else but Trump, for this mess! Michigan was a swing state to Trump in 2024. Oh and he's ordered all US liquor off Ontario's store shelves. Spectacularly cool Mr Ford!! Edited Friday at 00:05 by Al Krow 4 Quote

tegs07 Posted Friday at 07:12 Posted Friday at 07:12 (edited) Today could be interesting for US treasury yields and the stock market. Yields are increasing and there is some uncertainty that could lead to falls on wall street. Simultaneously the Heng Seng and Chinese stocks (particularly tech stocks) are rising. So falling stock market and increasing costs for the consumer while China and Europe see a rise in investor confidence. The master plan is not going swimmingly so far. Edit: But don’t worry it is all the fault of “globalists”. I take it this means the delusional idiots who think the world has an integrated economic system and supply chains? prowla Posted Friday at 07:33 Posted Friday at 07:33 Trump seems to be a bit indecisive about his tariffs https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y03qleevvo The folks working the respective departments must be confused as heck as to what's going on. Quote

Stub Mandrel Posted Friday at 08:08 Posted Friday at 08:08 Why doesn't DOGE start cutting US armed forces in Europe; they now have no function. Presumably the main driver vehind Trumps push for more European defence spending is US arms exports. If he can learn from history it's that lend-lease was very lucrative for the US. 1 Quote

I think he sees it primarily as a stick to beat Mexico with, IMO. Thank you, I was just about to go and find the story behind this to quote here, but now I don't need to yes, it doesn't look like he's quite so bothered about the drugs after all. No surprises there. Agent 00Soul Posted Friday at 13:30 Posted Friday at 13:30 (edited) Americans’ stereotype of Democrats is that they worship Canada and Canadians to the point of sycophancy. The stereotype of Republicans is they feel that there is a special level of hell reserved for Canada that’s even lower than the one reserved for Western European welfare states. So this is a grudge match that won’t be settled any time soon. Edited Friday at 13:31 by Agent 00Soul Quote
