If you feel embarrassed about the music you like, the music ain't the problem. Why would you feel you need to keep something like that a secret?

Coz if my dansband and C&W circles knew I secretly love Penderecki, Stockhausen and Xenakis, they'd come after me!

Indeed.  There is music I like and music I don't like.  Don't care who it is by or what genre it is.

I quite like playing music that I like over the PA before we come on and seeing some baffled faces.
We don't try to educate people with our set, but the PA is my domain.

A few of the songs from playlists that have confused folks...

'Bay City Rollers we love you' (Nick Lowe as The Tartan Horde).
'Let's get f***ed up' (The Cramps)
'Bite it' (Cheap Trick)
'My kingdom for a car' (Jason and The Scorchers)
'F*** it up' (Ian Hunter)
'Drunk in a band' (Del Amitri)
Various Sparks / XTC / Zappa things..

Nothing secret, but I love the whole 12" version of Donna Summer's McArthur Park Suite.

Also like The Carpenters, Bacharach and David and First Aid Kit.

I'm an adult so I don't need to have musical secrets.

If I like something I'll say so and if you're interested I'll give you an account of why I like it.

If you don't like me liking it then that's your problem.

I don't really get the whole 'guilty secret' thing regarding music. Fair enough when I was a 15 year old punk/headbanger kid; admitting I found Abba's 'Arrival' album utterly joyous probably wouldn't have been easy for my tunnel-vision peer group to accept. But as a grown-up prog rocker/metalhead, I know that good music's good music, talented artists are in all genres - even the ones miserable old gits like (most of) us moan about 'not being real music'.

If it's good, it's good, if you like it, then you like it. Taylor Swift is a genius.

Same here, my preferred genres are punk & heavy rock, but my fave song ever? Seasons in The Sun by Terry Jacks.

Since you mention The Carpenters, I have to say I have to recommend a listen to the “Karen Carpenter, less is more, school of drumming” on “For all we know”

Genius.

She was a generational talent

But her man is on the losing ( I hope ) team

No guilt about it - as a lifelong metal and rock fan, I still adore the Communards  “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” oodles of 90s house music, and Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walking.”

Congratulations on making it to adulthood,

It's a minor miracle that I made it to senior citizenhood.

It's just a fun question for people to think about.

Like you

I like what I like and couldn't care less about secrets

This question , a few pints with musician friends is a great time.

Try it sometime

You might like it

Have a good one

I love Karen Carpenter's voice

I dont really have a Genre anymore

If it's good music , no matter the genre , it's good and I'll listen

I am a METALHEAD Bass player though

I don't play every kind of metal

My newest like is INSECT METAL . : )

 videos on YouTube

Funny and great music

I'm liking heavy prog like Andy James , Angel Vivaldi ,John Petrucci , mark tremonti  ,Guthrie Govan Solo material right now.

The Bass players are all great that play with them.

Heavy , fast , technical , and the ability to  slow it down and play with heart when I don't expect it. Guthrie Govan and Andy James are in complete control of each and every note.

Thanks for your reply

Karen Carpenter had a wonderful magical voice

Imo the smoothest easy going voice ever, she just sounded effortless when singing, and her voice takes me back to my childhood in the early 70s, fond memories - think some of tomorrow will be spent on Amazon sourcing a best of.

I think These boots would be a great song to redo as a heavier than Metal song

A metal maiden singing of course

 Thanks for your reply

Take a little detour onto Youtube and do a search for Tori Holub - maybe weve only just begun.
