I couldn't give a shite what people think of my musical taste.

It gets some answers that are real surprising and even more funny

friends & Alcohol not included

Ya gotta bring your own

Relax

It's not about judging you or your musical taste

Well, I currently play in a band that covers all the British 70's to early 80's punk.

However, I keep going back to my trusty copy of Lexicon of Love by ABC when putting on music to work to in the house/garage/shed etc.......

As a grown up big boy, I'm beyond the whole my little secret/guilty pleasure thing.  If The Carpenters make me feel warm and fuzzy, why keep it to myself?

What next for Basschat?  What's your favourite colour?

I'm a big fan of Dean Friedman..."Ariel", "well, well said the rocking chair"

and "Lucky stars" are particularly favourites...

Saw him locally, last year, in Blair Atholl Castle. He still has the voice to hit those high notes perfectly. A very enjoyable gig.

I shouldn't have to explain this again

People people people

Please don't be so serious

You wouldn't find it pretty funny if  Stanley Clarke said  he loves playing SLAYER when he's alone.

Or if  B.B. King once said he loves playing MOTLEY CRUE

It would be Kool  , and definitely make me laugh. And They would probably think it's pretty funny too

It's not about secretly liking the carpenters

Im a METALHEAD, I played

HEAVY HARD TECHNICAL AND FAST music . that's all you've ever heard me play

And I  told you I love playing the Carpenters

It's FUNNY.

My favorite color is a secret. 🤪 lol

Taylor Swift is a genius

Certainly very talented, but if we accept Beethoven is a musical genius can we say that "You Belong With Me" compares to "Symphony No. 9 ("Ode to Joy") "?

I'm familiar with the song

I guess you're referring to T.S. "you belong with me . Compares to symphony. no 9

That's definitely subjective , fans of Beethoven would most likely say

"absolutely NOT" while fans of Taylor S. Probably would say "absolutely".

I'm from Reading Pa , West Reading Pa. where Taylor Swift was born and lived until she was 12 . A friend of mine

Ronnie Cremmer was a guitar player, we jammed with and honestly no one thought he was a good guitar player. He really wasn't. taught T.S. guitar.. when she was living in West Reading. I was just talking to Ronnie a few months ago. I hadn't seen him in about 20 - 25 yrs. That's the first time I ever heard that he taught TS guitar when she was a young girl.

Again he wasn't a good guitar player.

I guess he was a better teacher.

Nobody back then especially me never heard the name TS.

But we all hear her name now don't we.

And by we I mean the entire planet.

Good for her .

By the way I'm an EAGLES fan

Taylor Swifts boyfriend is on the CHEIFS

Taylor is gonna be sad on Sunday.

:?)

Oh I don't think a comparison of

the best known musical genius ever in the world almost 300 yrs dead .

With Taylor Swift an obviously loved

singer/songwriter.

It would be someone's personal option

Not fact.

Thus being SUBJECTIVE.

unfortunately your reply had nothing to do with the " the song nobody knows about"

I hope my reply to you isn't taken the wrong way.

I appreciate you

C.C.

No, I think the more fair comparison for popular songs would be with his late string quartets.

I sort of got it

Like you, I've played rock music my whole life.

It's what my friends expect of me but their faces when I tell them what I sing / play now are priceless.

Growing up my older brother was in a (then) quite well known Italian rock band. Supported Iron Maiden, Ian Gillan, on Italian TV shows etc

I loved Iron Maiden, Saxon, Motorhead etc but never told anybody how much I loved Wham!   Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet

Its a fair enough topic, but keep it a secret? No way.  I tend to sit and just 'listen' more to classical than pop but when I want to have a couple hours of satisfying bass playing then its just about anything from the pop charts of the 70's. Bee Gees, ABBA, Carpenters, Philly Soul, I'll even have an hr of two step.. Glen Campbell, Ray Stevens etc etc....As a bass player for me the 70's thru up a heck of a lot of great melodic bass playing and music.

Pretty shameful showing from some long-time BCers here.

Bass4Real hasn't been a member very long and some of the responses on here have been unfriendly to outright hostile.

We can do a lot better.

Indeed. It took some BC'ers only a matter of hours to drive away Guy Pratt when he joined.

Personally, I love the voice of Anggun. She is Indonesian and sings in French and English. Her songs Snow On The Sahara and (especially) Eternal are both sublime.

I've kept silent until now, but no more.
That person threatened BC with a court case, thus essentially threatening the very existence of BC. This was after one of BC's owners had reported about that person's use of racial stereotyping during a stand-up performance of his.

In response, I asked that person three questions - - questions that were easy to answer. Also: they were attemptedly (probably failedly) designed such that they might bring some clarity in a court case - should that person decide to go forward and drag BC to court.
That person decided to not answer those three questions (my guess is he's smart enough to have understood the implications of his answering them), and singled me out as the terrible person.
Seemingly, you along some others lapped it up.
Me, I'm not impressed.

I didn't actually remember any details (and hadn't even noticed anyone being particulary vociferous about it). I recalled it being more about how he didn't play this, that or the other tune 'properly' or why something else wasn't much good.

Not entirely sure of the relevance of something said at a stand-up performance. While a rampant atheist, I might be tempted to put forward the notion 'let he who is without sin'. Let's face it, we revere other bass players who have been violent towards others, and others are likely (as was common in earlier times) to have been (legally) paedophiles.

I appreciate that you don't remember the details; most wouldn't, and only a few would.
Personally, in this case I'd remember some details, but probably not all.

Still, I guess I must've worded my post poorly, so I'll try to reword:
A BC owner told BC readers about his experiences as a member of the audience at the name person's stand-up gig.
That name person somehow learned about this and started threatening BC with a court case. Owners told us the very existence of BC was under threat.
Trying to be in BC's corner, I asked my questions, and, instead of answering the questions, that person tried and partially succeeded in making me look like the bad person.
Some people on BC thanked me profusely; others started the blaming and the namecalling.
Since, every now and then someone refers to me as a bully or as the one who "has hounded off" said person.
I've kept silent after BC owners asked me to.

I think there was no "hounding off", and if there was a bully, it was not me.
Instead, I think I was someone attempting to help BC remain in existence, by asking three simple questions.

The relevance of something said at a stand-up performance exists (solely?) in that the story was told on BC by one of its owners, and the name person then threatened to drag BC to court.
I think there was no subject matter of people trying to treat said person badly over his reported racial stereotyping or over musical choices he may have made. I at least have not seen such treating him badly. On the contrary, I saw people submissively treat him like someone on another, higher, level.
The subject matter as far as I could see it was only his threatening BC with a court case.

Ok. I stand corrected.

In the meantime, check out Anggun.

so any reason you picked a  deliberate pop song from 15 years ago rather than her newer, older stuff? I mean she is certainly more sucessful while alive than Beethoven was when he was alive. I would also say that Symphony number 9 might be long but it only contains a few different motifs that get returned to a lot. And seeing as they are different styles of music I am not sure there is a comparison.
