It's challenging enough to get four people who like the same music into the same room.... then someone decides to become 'difficult'. I'm about to meet up with some people (none of whom have played with others in a while either), and I am obviously worried about this part of it. My last band was me on drums, my brother on guitar, a friend playing bass really badly, and a revolving door if vocalists. My brother and I were on the same page 99% of the time. I don't like change and it's hugely anxiety provoking. We only stopped playing because of things beyond my control. Sometimes just withdrawal from something is absolutely the right thing to do though. 3 Quote
Franticsmurf Posted Thursday at 17:43 Posted Thursday at 17:43 I've enjoyed reading about your gig adventures (often like a travelogue 😀) and I'll miss them. But you have to do what's right for you. As others have said, don't sell up yet. With all the emotions going on, it's the wrong time to make that kind of decision as well. Give ti time and see what happens. 3 1 Quote
Jackroadkill Posted Thursday at 18:03 Posted Thursday at 18:03 Absolutely the right call if the thrill is gone, Dave. It breaks my heart to think of not reading your gig reports, though! 1 Quote

If you can manage to part company on good terms and avoid burning bridges, so much the better. Who knows where things may end? If, as you say, you're a perfectionist, you're likely to be delivering to a high standard and have been doing for many years. Goodness knows if they will find someone as good as you to fill your boots! All on good terms and i have offered to cover all gigs to the end of the year if need be. I'm sure there are better players out there but i very much appreciate your comments. Dave 3 Quote
dmccombe7 Posted Thursday at 18:39 Author Posted Thursday at 18:39 I'm actually quite touched that quite a few have commented on enjoying my gig posts. That means a lot to me. Loved the "travelogue" comment. I'll always be on BC. Its my 2nd home even before Faceache. Dave 9 Quote

Few decisions in the band i wasn't entirely happy with and after losing sleep worrying about it i thought best to step aside and let someone else take over. Its always been a hobby for me and have always said when it becomes more like a job its time to walk away. I've offered to cover any gigs up to the end of 2025 or a replacement is up and running. Whichever comes first. Shame as i did enjoy playing in the band but that's life and it will allow me to spend more time on other hobbies. On one hand i'm kind of relieved and on the other hand i'll miss the good fun we had at gigs. Not sure yet but don't think i'll be looking for another band to join. I'll still be following everyone on BC tho and might be selling off some of the gear i've collected over past few yrs. Dave I know where you’re coming from Dave. We’ve scaled back this year and will probably aim more at 30-35 gigs; we’re not getting any younger and I’ve had some health issues……my bladder and prostate hate me. Good luck in whatever comes next my friend. 1 Quote
Mudpup Posted Thursday at 21:20 Posted Thursday at 21:20 (edited) It'll be the right decision Dave - sometimes the silly little niggley things of band life build up and begin to outweigh the fun stuff. That's when it's time to make a change. I've just gone through the same process after playing in the same band for 15 years and I don't regret it. The guys are right though, don't sell your gear just yet. I played my last ever gig on Dec 7th with the intention of taking at least 6 months off and just having a noodle at home. I now have an audition for something new tomorrow night....😂 (My wife had a secret bet with my son that i wouldn't make it into Feb without doing something) Oh and I too will miss your gig reports massively. I always read them on a Sunday morning with my own gig hangover! Edited Thursday at 21:21 by Mudpup 1 Quote

BlueMoon Posted Saturday at 07:25 Posted Saturday at 07:25 All the very best in what comes next for you! It sounds like you have made the right decision, as losing sleep over it is never good. Any decision like that is a relief once made and you are staying around until the band can find a replacement. I wish some of the bands that I’ve played in over the years had musicians with an attitude like yours. 1 Quote
neepheid Posted Saturday at 13:03 Posted Saturday at 13:03 Ach weel, when it's time, it's time. I too will miss the gig reports, but I reckon you'll get bored and join something else. I don't think you're done yet 1 Quote
