zapp Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Has anyone done a comparison of lightweight tuners for a Jazz Bass? I'm looking at either Gotoh Res-o-Lites or Hipshot Ultralites. Just wondering which was lighter? Cheers. Quote
Hellzero Posted February 6 Posted February 6 The Gotoh Res-O-Lite are lighter, I've done the weighting many moons ago. Quote
Hellzero Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Here are the weights I measured for the 2 different types. Hipshot HB3 (direct replacement, elephant ears): 87 grams Gotoh Res-O-Lite GB-640 (direct replacement, elephant ears): 67 grams Hipshot HB6Y (3/8 post, Gotoh GB-7 type): 52 grams Gotoh Res-O-Lite GB-350 (3/8 post, Gotoh GB-7 type): 40 grams (all included with screw and washer as they are also lighter than the original parts) Hope this helps. 1 2 Quote
Chienmortbb Posted February 6 Posted February 6 In my opinion the quality of the Gotohs are better too. 1 Quote
cocco Posted February 6 Posted February 6 (edited) I've just finished a build with all gotoh hardware including elephant ear resolites. Really impressed with them. They're stable, feel great and obviously are ridiculously light. Here's a photo of them in situ. Edited February 6 by cocco 5 Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Here are Gotoh GB640 sets on a couple of my Thunderbirds. They can be ordered as reverse or normal wind. I have the normal wind ones so they operate like the tuners on my other basses. 1 Quote

fretmeister Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Are the Res-O-Lite available with 1/2 inch post? I can't seem to find them on the Gotoh website. Quote
cocco Posted February 7 Posted February 7 @three @fretmeister thanks! Here's the NBD thread. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/508715-nbd-restomod-late-50s-p-bass-partscaster/ 1 1 Quote

The GB528 are 12 mm, just 0.52mm short of 1/2”. These tend to fit Far Eastern basses whereas the GB640s fit US basses as far as I remember. Quote
