Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone here has owned and gigged an Ampeg Big Stud bass? I saw one for sale in Canada where I am heading soon.
I am after something a bit more unusual and with a vintage vibe without a hefty price tag so this caught my eye but I have only found a handful of poorly recorded videos and contradicting infos.

Has anybody owned one in this community? If so, what’s your verdict? Tone wise in a band how it sat in a mix, playability etc.

Thank you 🙏

Not too heavy like some have complained, didn't weigh it but it feels under 10 lbs, maybe 9.5 lbs, and it sounds really good, nice deep Fender-like single coil tones from the neck pickup and when you add the bridge pickup it gets throaty with some added growl. Not like a Rickenbacker per se but that's the direction it leans with both pickups together. The bridge pickup soloed is more burpee Jazz like as you'd expect. The slab body is shaped like a Fender tele bass but made of laminated plywood. It's surprisingly resonate. I didn't expect that. The neck scale is 33.5" so that plus a 2x2 headstock makes it about 2" shorter than a Fender tele bass. But it's still a full scale, like a Rickenbacker.
