Or you could buy My ACG which would enable me to buy Mertons  ACG 😉(see my thread!)

I think this is the best solution for everyone 😀

For what it's worth I was in The Bass Gallery in London earlier and tried a used Anaconda Ultra J5. I was quite taken with the bass itself more so than the tonal voicing but the brand has definitely grabbed my attention still. Played effortlessly.

Whilst I was in there I also tried a Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V from the post 2010 era in the rare transparent wine finish. Was a fine bass albeit strung with flats. Roundwound user here. Decent basses regardless if one ever pops up at a decent-ish price.

I've just picked up a lovely 2004 small-body Fender American Deluxe Jazz in transparent Butterscotch Blonde. Can't recommend it enough. I'd forgotten how good these were 20 years ago. These would now be at the lower end of your budget.

Thanks KWM, yes it's practically mint, with just the slightest of "mic stand" knocks on the top of the headstock. Action is on the deck too - whoever set it up did a fantastic job.

How you getting on with the preamp? Do you use the active much? It there a passive option?

Really tasty looking bass but isn't this a 5 string thread?

I'm going to nominate an Ibanez SRMS805.

I've got one with US Barts and preamp and pickups that are switchable series/parallel, single. Slim neck, 33.5-35.5 scale and the gem for me, 18mm spacing.

Not 16.5mm spacing as per the Ibanez website? Oh they're movable. Got you.

I’m pretty sure there’s always been a five string version of the Deluxe Jazz.

You're right there has. I only said that because you posted pictures of a 4 stringed version. BassBros have a 5 stringed version for sale right now and I included the link in a previous post in case it was of interest to the OP 😊
