The Bass Doc
I think this was designed by that renowned Welsh luthier name of Barry Island.
steve-soar
I think you will find that a Mr I. Steadford had a hand in this too.
The Bass Doc
Possibly, but being Welsh he was always a bit sheepish about any involvement
steve-soar
Your quite right, have you noticed that tight neck pocket, very tidy, isnt it? No chance of sweat leeking into it, doesn't it?
The Bass Doc
Yes certainly looks a nice joint round about the shoulders - got a feeling though it may sound a bit woolly.
steve-soar
I agree, though looking again, the neck doesn't seem straight, it's at the wrong angle, see?

The Bass Doc
Afraid we've got a way to go yet - here's us taking the mick out of this listing and I've just been told that there is indeed a chance the bass was made in Wales - I'm seeking verification but the information did come from a mint source. steve-soar
I think I will have to shoulder the blame for the choppy nature of this thread.
The Bass Doc
It's OK Steve - bilbo's asleep now. My source reckons the parts were made in the Far East and then put together in Wales. However the ad. states 1980s and I thought Welsh Assembly came later than that?

noirpunk
Well, British Music Strings which was based in Cardiff. The instruments were imported from Korea, inspected and sold. The operation went belly up long ago. They're not uncommon, you see quite a few in cash generators and car boots around the South Wales area. Not particularly well made guitars, but a lot better than the old 'Axe' brand they used to seel in the back pages of Kerrang years ago. The Bass Doc
Thank heavens for a sensible and informative reply. Saved me getting to the point of mentioning Cardigan and woolly jumpers.
OldGit
One of the jam sessions I go to has one of these as the house bass. It's a very nice well worn bass that plays and sounds great. Certainly better than your average squier ...

Not sure how they got over the Berlin Wool. I suspect BMS were also associated with the Hohner RTX "Eurofighter" g*it*r, assembled in Wales from components sourced from all over Yurp. Jon.
