Len_derby Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I am considering selling or trading some of my basses with Rich Tone Music of Sheffield. Does anyone on Basschat have personal experience of the shop that they are willing to share? Quote
Reggaebass Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Hi len, I’ve never traded but I’ve bought from them, I asked for more info and pictures of the basses and they did exactly that, and they arrived no problem, I dealt with Tom who was a really nice guy, I had no problems whatsoever 1 Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Only purchased things from them via eBay . Great service . Occasionally I'll look on their website . Always seem thorough and professional in their listings. 1 Quote
Burns-bass Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I bought one bass that was dodgy and two that were ace. I think they’re focusing on used gear and going for volume which means competitive used sale prices. I think cash values will be low, maybe you’ll get 60% of retail. 1 Quote

I think one of the reasons the Basschat market place for used basses is turgid is because sellers are asking for too much. 2 Quote
Burns-bass Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I should say the slightly dodged used bass was sorted out immediately with a refund in my account within 24 hours and the bass collected with no problems. 2 Quote

Rayman Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Rich tone in my experience of buying, selling and trading with them have been great to deal with. I would recommend them personally. 1 Quote
Ed_S Posted February 15 Posted February 15 They're my local - I've been happily doing business with them since they opened the current shop and I've known some of the guys who work/ed there for years longer than that. I'd be willing to have a crack at answering any specific questions or concerns if I have relevant personal experience, but otherwise feel free to assume a general vote of confidence from somebody who doesn't even want to think about how much money he's put their way... 🙂 1 Quote
prowla Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I've bought parts from them by post without issue. If I were to go to Sheffield, I'd likely drop in. 1 Quote
la bam Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) They give very fast and very fair prices. People forget that they're under no obligation to buy off you, so it's unfair to complain if they make you an offer you don't want to accept. The prices are fair to seller and buyer. Yes, you might get more elsewhere, but for a quick sale, they can't be beat. Edited February 15 by la bam 1 Quote

Burns-bass Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I’ve also had a great experience with Moto Music in Cardiff. It’s a little more pricy but they only buy great examples and the service is fantastic. People like this and Bass Bros, etc, show there still is life for shops. 1 Quote
neepheid Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I bought a second hand pedalboard PSU from them a couple of years back. All good, no complaints. A perfectly unremarkable transaction, the best kind. 1 Quote
Geddys nose Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Sold a few things to them, they are the best of the big retailers to sell too. They also pay out pretty rapid. Bassbros if it’s bass stuff, Wills a legend. 1 Quote

I've seen the prices Rich Tone charge leap up in the past year, primarily used gear, to prices above that on fleabay. Brought from them in the past, but with their increased pricing system, no longer. 1 Quote

Had a look today and the Strat looked nice. 1 Quote
ProjeKtWEREWOLF Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I have bought from Rich Tone in the past, but now I see that most bass amps/cabs are 'collection only'. Frustrating. Quote
Terry M. Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I've bought from them once and returned the bass with no problem as it wasn't to my taste. All went well. I wish they listed specs though. 1 Quote
mike f Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Great place. Bought a 97 Warwick from them last year. Traded a pedal too. Recommended. 1 Quote
TbirdnTalman Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Bought a Jazz and other things from them in the past, all good for me 1 Quote
simonlittle Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I bought a bass from them a good few years ago. I was in the middle of a UK tour looking for a backup Precision and tried one out in the shop when we played Sheffield. Decided to buy it a couple of days later and they managed to have it delivered to one of the venues as we travelled on. Lovely people and very helpful. 1 Quote

Frustrating. If you look at the reviews and comments about couriers on this site you can understand why they don't want to use couriers! Also, collection only means that the buyer has a chance to inspect/try it before commiting to it. Quote

Len_derby Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Thanks for all the replies. It’s been pretty much overwhelming positive. Fortunately, Sheffield is only a thirty minute train ride or a one hour drive away. I could travel by bus for free, but it’d be a magical mystery tour through the Peak District. Cheers guys. Quote
