I bought this little monkey for £20. Never dismiss a cheap bass.. the neck is just... I've never got an action this low on a bass apart from the Modulus J. .set the neck dead flat with DR Low Riders and it's so playable. Sounds like a great P which I believe are the the stock single coils. I will never put flats on a P bass because imo a P needs rounds.  I'm actually amazed at this bass.

What amazes me (and makes me sad as I've spent so much money 😂) is that any of us bass players could probably play a simple p like that our whole musical career and it would sound great and do exactly what's needed! GAS is a terrible thing!

I could have a hundred of those for my cheapest bass!

It's like hifi, every tiny improvement doubles the cost ....and even then most people won't hear the difference.

Cheap basses are hit and miss, some are utter cr&p, and some are pretty decent. For them to be good you'll need to know how to set them up to your liking.

My home practice bass is a cheap P, cost a grand sum of £10, after some work setting it up and aligning a few parts, it's now a really nice player, neck feels really nice, cheap pickup sounds pretty good, tuners turn super smooth, hipshots on my other basses don't feel any better. I use it to practice and record with and never misses a beat.

I bought a Squier Sonic as a spare thinking that I’d mod it a bit, pups, bridge etc. Lowered the action. It’s low, real low. No neck adjustment, just the saddles. Rattle canned it Oly white, stuck a cheeky logo on it and it’s replaced my main Precision (which is actually a nice bass). It plays and sounds great. It doesn’t need any mods. The first gig I used it at, I had a number of really good compliments about it. One from a band who’s bassist was using a Shuker P. I didn’t have the heart to tell them….

The Squier Sonics and the Harley Benton’s are great basses for the money. Plus they are new with a warranty. You can always send them back too.
