karter2000 Posted Tuesday at 00:59 Posted Tuesday at 00:59 Hi all, I posted this over in TB but it got buried pretty quickly so sorry if you've seen this question recently. I'm looking for a 600 dollar (Canadian) 5-string with actives. I've narrowed it down to the Jackson Spectra JS3V or Yamaha TRBX305 based on trying them and others at my local stores. My initial thoughts that the Yamaha felt more solid and better build quality, but I did like the tone of the Jackson. I'm looking for an aggressive sounding bass if that helps. The 35' scale of the Jackson didn't feel too awkward given my experience has been with 34" basses. Quote
ajkula66 Posted Tuesday at 02:57 Posted Tuesday at 02:57 Yamaha would be my preference given the decades of experience with their instruments that led to a very, very few disappointments. However, if you prefer the sound of Jackson...go for it. Have you considered any second-hand options since they often mean more bang for the buck ? 1 Quote
velvetkevorkian Posted Tuesday at 13:28 Posted Tuesday at 13:28 If I'm buying a Jackson I want it to have a pointy headstock!!! If you can get past that I doubt there's much to choose between them tbh. I like a 35" scale but 34" is fine too. But as per above I'd look used in the first instance as that will buy you a lot of bass. 1 Quote
