rushbo Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Hi Basschat tech geniuses The world of amp/cab compatibility is a mystery to me as I've been a combo guy for the last twenty years, so please excuse me if this quesion has been asked before. I'm looking for a lightweight, no frills set up for the occasional gig where my regular rig might be overkill. I like TC Electronic stuff and I'm thinking about getting a BC208 cab. I like the look of both the BQ250 and the BAM200 amps. The cab is 200W, so would the BQ250 be compatible with it? Here are the specs: BC208: https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.html?modelCode=0707-ACW BQ250: https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.html?modelCode=0707-ACT BAM 200: https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.html?modelCode=0707-ACV Help an elderly and often confused man out, please! Downunderwonder Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Sure. Just turn it down if the cab complains. 1 Quote

chris_b Posted February 23 Posted February 23 What is your regular rig? 2 x 8 cabs are fine at home, but I wouldn’t be able to gig with one. 1 Quote

lemmywinks Posted February 24 Posted February 24 The Trace 2x8 with Faital drivers is probably a bit more capable, one for sale here: 1 Quote

I have gigged this, quite a bit, and it's been superb. Mainly for an improv fusion thing in a pub in Lancaster, with full kit (and not a shy drummer), electric guitar, acoustic guitar and sax. It was ample. The real test came at Lancaster Funk Club when I stood in as house bass player, up against a right noisy bunch, kit, Hammond & Leslie, guitars, horns, and a harmonica player through a cranked 4x10 Fender Bassman. Again, it held its own and I would not hesitate to use it again in similar circumstances. All the above with an Elf head too, so running at 130w into 8 ohms. Admittedly the Elf Master Vol was on max, and I controlled the overall volume with the gain control. But I have found that's the best way to use the Elf in any circumstances to be fair. Rob 1 Quote

rushbo Posted February 26 Author Posted February 26 Thanks for all the input everyone, its much appreciated. Just to muddy the waters, I've spotted a Genz Benz Focus LT 1x12 200w/8ohm at a sensible price not far from me - would that be a better bet with either of these mini amps? I'm not looking for huge volume and as most of the gigs we do have PA support, so it would be for my montoring only. BQ250: https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.html?modelCode=0707-ACT BAM 200: https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.html?modelCode=0707-ACV Thanks! Quote

Generally a used GB cabinet in good condition will be a way better value proposition than any new TC cab. It may not be any lighter than the TC combo you are selling though, so you better check on that. Quote

rushbo Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Thanks all, but I've gone with a Warwick Gnome 200 Watt Pocket Bass Amp Head and the Gnome Pro CAB 10/4 1x10-inch 200W cab, which should be arriving on Monday. I managed to get a great deal on the pair and they look perfect for my needs. Cheers for your input. Quote
