Do you multiple cabs from the same company, what do you have & why?

Are you brand loyal?

My first dive into bass cabs was Mesa Powerhouse. I ended up with a 4x10, 2x10 and 1x15 of which the most used was the 4x10.

Sold those and replaced them with Barefaced due to better low end performance, weight saving and as i found out, my ears heard better sound quality.

BTII,

BBII,

DUBSTER 2,

LF800.

Initially i was looking at the first dubster after speaking to BF and they were going to loan me one to try out but the bassie from UB40 was still using it on loan. So i later got a BTII..

Main cab is still the BTII, then BBII singularly or  in combination with Dubster if not in the PA on an outdoor reggae gig. LF800 so far has only used with my EUB and schertler Unico.

So i guess i'm brand loyal and could see me adding a One10T at some point.

Two different BF cabs here too - one Two10S for smaller/quieter gigs or those with big PAs, and a Super Twin for when I need to be loud or there’s no PA support :)

I`m fairly brand loyal, in various set-ups I`ve had:

Ashdown 410 and 210

Marshall 410 & 210

Ampeg 410 & 210

Hartke 210 & 115

Markbass 112 combo & 112 ext spkr

I`ve always had the cabs from the same range as well, for both sound and OCD reasons

I have 2 mark bass cabs

1x15 club and 2x10 club

very occasionally I'll use both but stick with the 15 generally, (lighter and PA support)

There's an ashdown RM 4x10 too which comes out on bigger stages

I had a Loud Inc 4x10, then added a 1x15 from the same maker to get the full advantage

of two 8 ohm cabs. Then I sold the 1x15 for another identical 4x10 and it was a great rig.

Still own one of the 4x10s, and there’s another for sale at the moment on here which I

neither need or can afford, but of course still want. 😁

Markbass fanboi here…….🤭👍😇

A good mate of mine has just bought himself a Markbass rig but i've yet to hear. I do recall doing a Jazz Cafe gig about 8 years ago and there was an old markbass 8x10 cab so I used it instead of my Mesa boogie 4x10 and man that sounded great. Up until I got my BF, that was the only backline cab i've used that was memorable for sounding superb.

I bought a pair of Acme B2 two ten three way cabinets. Putting a Low B through them at volume was so delightful I bought another pair! Standing in front of them driven by 2000W  is an experience I recommend to any bass player. :D

I am kinda brand loyal-ish.

I used Mesa Boogie (2 x 90lbs) for 10 years, Bergantino(2 x 30lbs) for another 10 and for the last 10, Barefaced (2 x 22lbs). The weight of these cabs tracks my physical fitness!! Currently I own a Super Compact, Super Midget, BB2 and 2 One10's. Unless a miracle happens I imagine these cabs will see me out.

Yes I have multiple Trace Elliot cabs because they sound awesome, but due to their weight and age can now be picked up for almost nothing. Currently I have the following (roughly grouped how I use them):

2x2103x The first one has replacement speakers that are a bit dodgy, so I grabbed a second for about £40. I only really use the good one now.

1x1153 which is a nice 15 inch speaker to fit under the 2103x

1x1048 for the 4x10 sound

1x2103H for the 2x10 + horn sound

1x1810x it was going for £20 so I thought why not

A combo which is essentially a 1048H cab which used to have a GP12 head apart from the previous owner threw it away so I added a GP7 head from a 715 combo, meaning I now have an additional 15 inch speaker in a cab but without a head - not dissimilar to the 1153 as above. This latter one is mainly used as a work bench!

So yes that will be 8 Trace Elliots...

A matching pair of Purple Chilli 112s. Absolutely love them. Had one, couldn't get a second so sold it. Shortly after, a pair came up for sale and I just had to have them.

They sound wonderful (slightly warm and vintage to my ears) and are nice and light. They are possibly a little bulky by today's standard, but I'll live with that.  Shame Mike doesn't make them anymore - too busy making his fabulous Zoot bases?

Have you reinforced your floor?

Two Genz Benz 112’s for most things, but the Trace Elliot 410 and 115 are in the garage. Trace vintage power…GP12 smx 400w. I am thinking about getting an Elf for home and small/ medium gigs

They've never all been in the same place as I tend to leave them where I play - far too heavy to steal or move unnecessarily!

Mind you writing the above post did make me think that this summer I should get them all together in one place just for the fun of it - I've probably also got enough heads and splitter pedals to power the whole lot as one big rig which would be entertaining - I could use bass chat members to see how far away they could hear me from!

Three Trickfish cabs:

  • 2x TF112
  • 1x TF410V

Why Trickfish? Well together with the Trickfish amps (Bullhead Mini & .5K) the sound out of my rigs is exactly what I want it to sound like. I have a mild EQ curve on my Source Audio EQ2. I rarely use the EQ on the amps.

MarkBass cabs

  • 2x New York 804

Cool little cabs (like mini 410's), but not nearly as nice sounding as the Trickfish ones. When you crank the amp you can feel them pushing the air in your back, feels nice.
