Up for sale, these lightly used Aquila Gold Springs Vintage D & G Double Bass strings.

 

£100 (includes free postage within the UK). 

 

 

These were on my bass for just 4 months and only had very light use in that time. I loved the tone and feel of these strings, but missed my Spiros and started more bowing, so these are now surplus to requirements. Plenty of  life left in them and sold here in very good condition.

Aquila's Gold Springs strings are a modern recreation of the legendary Kaplan 'Golden Spirals' used by many famous 50s/60s players (i.e. Scott LaFaro and later by Charlie Haden). These are the "Vintage" variety (nylon wrapped gut ).

 

Italian string maker Mimmo Peruffo, under his Aquila brand, used post-war gut strings of the Kaplan Red-o-ray and Golden Spiral brands, which have now disappeared from the market, as a model. Peruffo obtained strings still in existence, measured and analysed them, and then rebuilt them. Like the historical models, the Aquila replicas that Peruffo offers under the name “Gold Springs”  (Vintage) consist of a gut core with nylon wrapping.

 

These strings are exclusively suitable for pizzicato, offering a rich, deep tone with a crisp attack. Well known for capturing the iconic sound of the 50s and 60s jazz scene.

 

 

Sold as a pair - I would rather not split.  As you probably know, these retail at around £100 per string and can be tricky to source. Chance here to try them out at half price!
