dave_bass5
My MB bag is starting to fall apart and i was shocked at how much they cost now so ive decide i need an alternative. My problem is I dont take my Amp home as it stays with my drummer so i cant take it round the shops to try it out. I need a pocket or compartment large enough to hold a few shot leads, my AKG wireless system with PSU and mains lead. Any suggestions? Cheers. Dood
Hi Dave, There is a massive range of laptop bags out there. I use one for my slender MB F1. Infact, laughably, the last time I went up to meet the guys for a writing session I took my amp, laptop and all my leads in one bag.. and my X3 in it's own gig bag. dave_bass5
Thansk Dood. Yes, a Laptop bag might work. I have a courrier tpye bag for my LMII and that holds all my other bits as well. I guess the point of this thread is to get specific bags as i cant take my amp to try first so i just wondered what others were using and where to get them. I still cant believe the MB bag is around £90. Even when i got mine for £70 i thought it was way over priced. Now the seams have split around the pocket i think its even more overpriced as ive only had it for a couple of years.
Dood
I see what you mean Dave.. Ouch! that did turn out to be an expensive bag! I was just tryinig to think of other options too. My other thought would be like, a Camera bag.. or one of those laptop rucksacks. Though again, I'm afraid I cant give you specifics. Which still leaves you with not being able to try one out. - It did make me think though - if companies like Roqsolid exist making 'covers' for amps etc.. annnnd you can buy custom rack cases - I wonder if there is a company out there that can make bespoke holdalls/rucksacks/bags etc? Hmmmm... I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine - I see a gap in the market!!! lol
Musicman20
Without a doubt I recommend Gigs Skinz. They might look a little 'modern', but dont worry, the dragon print design is only really visible in the light. Very tough, very safe, well made, lots of pockets, and pretty much the the best price you can get for a gig bag. Here are a few examples: http://www.flightcasepro.co.uk/Gig-Skinz/Gig-Skinz-DGMS.php http://www.flightcasepro.co.uk/Gig-Skinz/Gig-Skinz-DGMM.php The small mixer bag fits LM2/LM3 perfectly. Not so sure which one is best for SA450...but they have measurements on the site. I got one for the LM3 and its brilliant. It even has a velcro strap in the main compartment to hold the amp in place. Dood
Those gig skinz look good! oh well.. looks like I wont need to make bags after all he he he he he!!!
dave_bass5
Cheers guys. Those Gig skinz look great although the medium one is a bit too small for the SA450. I quite fancy the 2U rack bag though. I could then rack the head up in it.
Kongo
I'd say send it my way and I could mod that at work but...it would have to go through official stpes and thus, would cost you to much so...Go for the laptop bag option. Oh and do rack it up, the SD800 I use at rehearsal is and it's STILL lighter than my floor processor!!! But looks nice and is protected...plus if you have a 3u or 4u you could add rack effects. (although you'd add weight). Oh and if you have the time, please visit my thread SA450 vs SD800 as you have the head I'm interested in, I'd like some views about how it holds up.
Thanks for the reply. I would have been happy to pay fo rthe bag to be fixed, and almost did but ive never really liked the fact that the bag has large vents in it at either end. Not very rain friendly. So im happy to replace it. My 2U rack bag is on its way. I was going to get a 3U but i dont really use anything else other thana wireless system. Oh and the vents? Rain friendly? No problemo. Congrats on the 2U...I love rack heads...Look so much better encased (Obviously lol!) and heads like Markbass that don't have a great deal of a shell can benefit from surviving falls if need be...which is hardly ever if at all. Ive never had a racked amp before and im not sure how nice the SA450 will look with the rack ears on but like you say, its going to be a lot better protected. Its not like its going to be heavy, even with my other bits in it. I'll check your thread later tonight.
yorick
If you have a shop called FREE SPIRIT near you, they stock Animal bags. I have a hybrid courier/laptop bag that i use on occasion for my Ashdown LG350. It carries that and quite a few other bits and bobs as well. It doesn't have too much padding, mind... but only cost £25!!!

dave_bass5
This is what i use for my LMII and all my bits. Its just a shame the SA450 wont fit it. Blacks were doing them for £20 so i got 2 a year or so ago. Nicely padded and quite rugged. Edited June 9, 2009 by dave_bass5

The rack ears don't look out of place. Just depends on what your used to. Rack heads ALWAYS look good in a case IMO. I spoke atr work about us maybe doing things like this as we are looking to diversify past motorsport and it met with great response. If it gets real bad and you do need it looked at, you know where to turn. Say the spec and it's yours.

Yes, i think my rig will look a bit more "proper" with a racked amp. I would have prefered something like a SKB case rather than a bag, with all its straps hanging off etc but this will be more practical. Im really glad i kept the ears now. I almost gave them away to someone on here a few years ago. An open door my friend, in times like this it's a good idea. We went from trimming cars, to F1 travel gear, prisons etc...Can go anywhere. I was specifically talking about the MB heads though but you never can tell. My Gig Skinz bag turned up to day. Looks great and it will hold all my gear, plus a bit more that i can now start using.
