I got a Cort Rithmic a couple of months ago and loved it. It plays well and sounds great and I particularly love the passive electronics.

On the weekend, I was browsing online and randomly came across a half price Rithmic V, it cost less than the four string which I also got for a good price. I couldn't resist. Here is the new bass alone and PXL_20250311_114056279.thumb.jpg.1a7fc541f4313f686d84dee40e625218.jpgwith the 4-string and my Harley Benton 7-string.PXL_20250311_114101910.thumb.jpg.b27c0555d0032a9452b773d172ab6223.jpg

I have to say that, in my 44 years of playing, I have always found that, whatever instrument I play, I unfortunately end up sounding remarkably like me.

I had one for a while and I'm afraid I sold it because it felt and sounded 'too sterile'. I know that is a subjective feeling so I hope you enjoy yours.

Ironically it was just yesterday I called Peach Guitars to make an appointment to try one. They let me know that their one had a technical issue so that was that. How are you finding your one so far? I'm a fan of 19mm bridge spacing on fives so really wanted to give it a spin. How do you find it with the pickup spacing distance also?

Reidys Music right? I saw it also. They were that price new not that long ago. They're really expensive now so well done 👏

Hey Terry, I've been nothing but pleased with it over the last year. My main basses (apart from the workhorse Jazz basses) are Status, so I have very high expectations from a headless bass. You have to drive the input gain on your amp a little, as the 9v MarkBass preamp is a little underpowered in output terms (there's no trim pot inside, either), but give it a chunk of bass boost and a touch of treble and you get some very nice sounds. It's very light and easy to play for a five-string too. For the money, I can't recommend it enough.

Markbass preamp? Are we talking about the Cort Rithimic V? 🤔

Yes, it was the Reidy's offer, Terry. I saw it for under a grand previously but it went up and some places are asking £1449 but I got it for £799 so all good. The 'sterile' comment is an interesting one because I find that fact that the sound is 'tamer' than a lot of active basses can be is that selling point for me.

Hope you bond with it. I've seen the £1.4k price also elsewhere. You sound like you're a fan of passive basses perhaps. How does the wide pickup spacing affect things,is there an inherent mid scoop when they're equally blended?

I think you are right about the mid scoop. That is what I always went for with every amp I ever had so that may explain why I like the sound.
