One more: and please, please tell them to ask NBE to hire someone who can do proper bursts for the CST. I am looking at the one in natural violet you are having in stock at the moment and, man, this is one bad take on a burst finish. Sorry.

Looks like some apprentices must have been tasked with the spray paint job or, even worse, the candidates from the UK show Apprentice were sent to CZ to make basses for one day. Would not surprise me 😉

HAHA, to be fair as much as there has been a lot of moaning about the bursts on these basses, they have been the most popular model of Spector for quite some time and we must have sold at least 20.

Someone at Spector needs to write a strongly worded letter to The White Star Line  Hipshot to get an off the shelf Xtender based on a Gotoh GB707. I’d buy at least two on the day they released them.

Drop them an email ;), they DO listen.

I know there are quite a few people, myself & Eldon included, who haven't bought one because of the poor bursts. They'd sell even more if they sorted them out ;)

RST models with EMGs would be winner too. Everyone wants a bit of roasted nowadays but those pickups put me off totally.

I admit I was quick to cast scorn on the CST bursts when they first appeared, but there are some good examples out there. Perhaps they took a few tries to get the hang of it.

Ok, the burst looks a bit better, I'll give you that, but they all look somehow washed out, with the burl only showing in limited areas.

Where can I get one that looks like this one (from the Spector website)?:

Fair play, I will pass on the thoughts :)

Those of you that have been hanging around Bassworld Basschat as long as me will probably remember those Lakland Dudepit specials.  There was a minimum order quantity of 30 IIRC. There was some flex as I remember paying a bit extra for Chisonic pickups that had a different rout. I think there were rosewood/maple options as the necks were modular to other models etc etc. Someone here will remember the ins and outs.

I seem to remember a "yellow" 5 string P with blocks being one that never came to fruition...

Anyway,  surely if a few of us here agree a spec with BD, we can understand variables, get price confirmation, specify the variables and pay a deposit?

That way, at least @Bass Direct gets a clear indication or steer of what's commercially viable and derisks a minimum order by having x punters already committed? Obviously, no glitter-pink 6-strings but some arrangement or consensus must be possible?

What are parameters and constraints of minimum orders? I'm guessing NBE is more flexible than whoever was making those Skylines back in the day, it's only a small shop. And as @Eldon Tyrell implied, some of those signature models are tiny volumes.

@cetera is your man as he made the special edition Spector Euro 4X happen, back in 2022 as far as I remember.

Finishes were black gloss, white gloss, tobacco burst and ultra violet, all sold via BD.

...which is much more niche than what we're thinking here...

You may only need 10, like this Spector Euro 4 Limited Hyper Red, currently on sale in Germany, Switzerland, and Hungary by various retailers ("Limited Run of 10 Worldwide"):

I love the colour scheme, but would have gone with an ebony fingerboard, a gloss finish, EMG pickups and the new legacy preamp.

The neck is also too thick for my taste - Depth at 1st fret: 23,37 mm. 20,X mm would have been better.

That's £2787 landed + £335 for EMGs and LHZ - £200 resale of Barts and pre = £2922. And then you have a limited edition that isn't original 🤔

Anyway, back on topic for a moment and probably the most important bit of Spector advice for @W1_Pro, be careful, as you could end up obsessed, as you've witnessed here 😀

I have to say I have a weight relieved LT5 and there is no neck dive... though to be fair I don't think I've ever experienced neck dive with a bass. You're either standing holding and playing or you're not 😉

I think the CST line look great. I can take the bursts, though not to my taste but I can't stand the burl. Looks like somebody has been stubbing out cigarettes in the wood. Flame maple, quilted or just nicely figured anything but that!

Man, this DOES look killer 🤩

Someone over at TB is currently selling a NS-2 in this finish, looks like the exact same bass (NS2 #1527, from fretnation).

I agree, this would be a cool special Euro run. As soon as you go for highly figured tops (quilted or flame maple or burl), like in the other photo you showed, chances are you may end up with something that does not look anything that great (like the current CST ones). Luck of the draw.

Agreed. Good point raised there re CSTs, @Eldon Tyrell

I must say that the birdseye one currently at BD is outrageous.

Now that I’ve had a good look, I’m smitten.

To save people searching, the spec is:

Model Number: NS-2

Weight: 8.78 Pounds

Serial Number: #1527

Signed: May 17, 2023

Specifications:

4-String Bass

Scale: 34"

Narrow Nut Width: 1.5"

Solid Maple Wings (Plain Maple)

Blue to Purple Colorshift High Gloss

Ebony Fingerboard

Black Mother of Pearl Crown Inlays

Blue Luminlay Side Dots

EMG PJ-X Pickups

Spector 9v HAZ

Spector Lightweight Aluminum Locking Bridge w/ Brass Saddles

Dunlop Dual Design StrapLok System

Black Hardware

Spector Tolex Case

The bold ones are the bits that get me extra smitten.

Importing that would come in about £5750 by my rough estimate with VAT, Duty, Insured Shipping, handling. Can’t be far off a new one.

Yep, that's the one. Original sales ad: https://reverb.com/item/69710136-spector-usa-ns-2-4-string-bass-1-5-blue-purple-colorshift-finish-emg-pjx-9v-haz-8-78lbs-ns2-1527

The same bass as a Euro (but with 1.64'' nut width instead of 1.5'' and with the thin neck specs (so shallow and not chunky), like the Ian Hill model, would be great!

Well, there’s 2 down 8 to go? I think we know where a 3rd would go 😉

I’m just not that fussy with necks, as long as a bass isn’t ultra skinny, like some Ibanez models of the past that give me cramp or like the barge Valenti I had shaved, that made my finger joints hurt, I’m happy.
