MoJoKe Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 (edited) I bought a used LX5 on the 'bay a couple of months ago, and I love it, BUT, it has a really noisy Jack socket which I don't seem to be able to cure however much I fiddle! Correct me if I'm wrong, but the tonepump preamp uses the middle sleeve contact to switch on and off, and if the Jack plug is wiggled even slightly it makes a loud popping noise. Anyone got any quick thoughts, as I have an important gig tonight, and though I could relegate to my spare and use my Rebop 5, I would rather not! Thanks! Edited June 6, 2009 by MoJoKe Quote
andyonbass Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 You should find some info on the Spector Forum. I've had 2 Spectors and had to change the Jack socket on them both Quote
Basszilla Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 It's probably been used with a planet waves type banana plug jack. Over time they cause bad connection as the jack is slightly wider in places. It happened to mine a long time ago, replaced it, started using proper leads and it's been fine since. Quote
GreeneKing Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 The Spector style of jack plug tends to be the type you need to replace rather than repair methinks. Quote

Cleaned it, but to no avail!, will try contacting Spector, thanks for all your help, guys!! PS. used the rebop instead, the gig was stunning! We were "supporting" the "Abba Girls", all went really well! Quote
andyonbass Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I replaced mine with Switchcraft ones, never had a problem after that. Quote
