I have a svt pro 7 it’s kept in a gator 2unit case after an hour it starts cutting out and 3-5 seconds later cuts in is it overheating because it’s fine up to the first hour or so

Add a fan to the back of the case to improve air flow to keep the amp cool.

A 2U case doesn't provide a lot of space for air flow.

I think it is in need of service. It is getting hot when it shouldn't, after being fine in the case for many years?

Cooling is via fan sucking air in the back and exhausting on the far side of the rack unit. If the case were silly deep it might recirculate a little. Nothing draped over the back? Warm air rises.

Make sure it is working. Feel where the warm air goes with a damp finger.

If you feel safe doing so you can open up the case and have a look inside. Is there loads of dust inside? Is there anywhere with any burn marks or obvious overheating issues? If you remove the case and you play it does the fan kick in when it should and does it run smoothly and quietly? Is there anything blocking the air flow? Does the amp vent out to clear air or does it fire straight into the flight case box? Is it able to suck in cool air easily?
These are all basic things to check first and see when happens, worth a try before you send it off for an expensive repair.

SVT-7s are notoriously unreliable. The newer ones are better, but still have issues with the limiter circuit kicking in when it shouldn't.

Less preamp gain, more master volume, maybe? And yep, like everyone else has said, make sure the air has room to circulate, and use a can of compressed air to clean the fan from time to time.
