Angling up the cab for rehearsals - anyone got any elegant and styling ways of doing it?

Hey everyone. I had a lovely little Hartke Kickback for a few weeks and having an angled combo for low-volume practise at home was really nice. Last night the rehearsal rooms we were in had a Behringer with the same cab and probably a very similar amp and it did a really good job. I honestly enjoyed my tone so much more when it was firing up at me and the others were happy with the sound too.

I have a MarkBass NY121 that I'd like to angle up at 45 degrees to get the same effect. I could just use a couple of books to wedge it (and probably will do) but I wonder if anyone has any experience of a more elegant way of doing things.

Cheers!

I used one when I owned a Markbass cab.

Cheers, I've seen these but wasn't sure. Are they any good then? ... just looked ... discontinued! Although, it ought to be easy enough to make something like this with a bit of ply and some hinges and a bit of velcro. No?

Really good. I had zero problems with it personally. Did the job and was a brand match.

Must admit. I have a weird satisfaction when stuff matches... Though I may have to make my own version.

Oh discontinued? Shame. But then I'm going back about 12 years now or so.DIY is NOT my strong point if I'm being honest but if you're handy enough why not give it a go?

I had an old Peavey combo I did that with. I got hold of a plastic milk crate and cut a 90⁰ angle out of it at an appropriate tilted-back angle, and set the combo in it. It was a good solution- it was very stable as it was a one-piece stand, and it lifted the amp up off the stage so it wasn't so well linked to it.

You want to tilt it back just enough so its center of gravity is well inside the crate so it doesn't lean back too hard...  it worked really well, I found out how really good this old tank sounded! I moved on to something a bit lighter though, of course...

They look good but I'm not too keen on the idea of doing that to nice MarkBass cabs. Also, not sure they'd get on with the rat fur cover.

You want to tilt it back just enough so it likes to keep it's center of gravity well over the inside of the mill crate so it doesn't want to try and fall backwards...

I mean, that's just £20 for goodness sake, I'd be hard pushed to buy some hinges and velcro for that...

You definitely have options at least ☺️

Thanks! The nice part is you don't really tend to see the crate. For me the fun part was that it usually says something like "Property Of..." on it somewhere... 😏

I looked into this very thing when I was buying a small combo. I ended up buying a Eich BC112pro which has a clever system using a metal rod which locates into a bracket on the back. This allows quite a sharp angle. Very clever design (the rod snaps into a holder on the bottom)

Now if you could find a rod to locate into the edge of a port or some sort of reinforced divot then you might be able to create something similar, like this

These look good too, I much prefer the idea of something like this as opposed to a bulky stand (which seem to be universally poor quality and/or awkward to carry)
